Creating Introduction, Scope and Limitation, and Significant of The Study

The document discusses how to create an introduction, scope, limitations, and significance of a study. It explains that an introduction establishes relevance and scope defines boundaries. Limitations impact the study, while significance justifies the research. Examples are provided for writing scopes, limitations, and significance.

AND LIMITATION, AND

WHAT IS INTRODUCTION?
Introduction is the first thing your
audience encounters.

Introduction establish the scope and

boundaries of the research paper. It
let readers know the relevance of the
problem discussed in the writing
piece.
IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD INTRODUCTION
A well-written introduction is important
because, quite simply, you never get a second
chance to make a good first impression.

A vague, disorganized, or error-filled

introduction will create a negative
impression.
HOW TO WRITE A GOOD INTRODUCTION
1. Get your readers’ attention
-begin your introduction with a sentence or two that will capture their interest by
simply stating a fact that most people aren’t aware of

2. Explain why your topic matters

-you can give background for your research by discussing previous research on the
topic

3. Lay out your argument and plan

-tells readers the purpose and main idea of your paper

4. Define your direction

-help them understand how the paper is organized and where it’s going

SCOPE
&
LIMITATION
SCOPE LIMITATION

refers to the problem or issue is used for constraints that

that the researcher wants to impact the researcher’s
study with the project ability to effectively study
the scope of the project

sets the boundaries within

the parameters of the study
those parameters
SIGNIFICANCE OF SCOPE AND LIMITATION
• It allows researchers to define the research project’s boundaries,
enabling them to focus on specific aspects of the project.

• Setting limits and focusing your study through scope and limitation
enables the researcher to stay within the parameters of the project’s
resources.

• A well-defined scope and limitation ensure that the research project

can be completed within the available resources, such as time and
budget, while still achieving the project’s objectives.
5 STEPS TO SETTING LIMITS AND DEFINING
THE SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF YOUR STUDY
1. Identify your research question or topic
The first step is to identify what you are interested in learning about. The
research question should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and
time-bound (SMART).

2. Consider the key terms or concepts related to your topic

Consider all available resources, such as time, budget, and data availability,
when setting scope and delimitation.

3. Consider the different perspectives on your topic

Get feedback on the proposed scope and limitation. Advisors can provide
guidance on the feasibility of the study and offer suggestions for
improvement.
4. Narrow your focus
Be specific and concise when setting scope and limitation. The
parameters of the study should be clearly defined to avoid ambiguity
and ensure that the study is focused on relevant aspects of the
research question.

5. Develop the final research plan

Revisit and revise the scope and limitation as needed. As the research
project progresses, the scope and limitation may need to be adjusted to
ensure that the study remains focused on the research question and
can produce useful results.
EXAMPLES OF SCOPE AND LIMITATION
Example 1
Research question: What are the effects of social media on mental
health?

Scope: The scope of the study will focus on the impact of social media on
the mental health of young adults aged 18-24 in the United States.

Limitation: The study will specifically examine the following aspects of

social media: frequency of use, types of social media platforms used, and
the impact of social media on self-esteem and body image.
EXAMPLES OF SCOPE AND LIMITATION
Example 2
Research question: What are the factors that influence employee job
satisfaction in the healthcare industry?

Scope: The scope of the study will focus on employee job satisfaction in
the healthcare industry in the United States.

Limitation: The study will specifically examine the following factors that
influence employee job satisfaction: salary, work-life balance, job
security, and opportunities for career growth.
WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A STUDY?

The significance of the study is a written statement that explains why

your research was needed.

It’s a justification of the importance of your work and impact it has on

your research field, it’s contribution to new knowledge and how others
will benefit from it.
WHY IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
IMPORTANT?

It's main purpose is to make clear why your study was

needed and the specific contribution of your research made to
furthering academic knowledge in your field.
HOW DO YOU WRITE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF
THE STUDY?
1. The study should include you writing the problem statement and
explaining to the reader where the gap in literature is.

2. Then think about the two perspectives:

(1) what is the general contribution of your research on your field
(2) what specific contribution have you made to the knowledge
and who does this benefit the most.

Note: The statement should be shorter and around 200 words at most
