Introducing the
Automatic BMI Machine
• The BMI machine uses load sensors and ultrasonic sensors to measure your weight and
height, respectively. The load sensors are placed under the footpad of the machine and
can measure the pressure exerted by your feet. The ultrasonic sensors are located above
the footpad and can measure the distance from the top of your head to the sensors. The
Arduino board processes the data from these sensors and performs the BMI calculation,
using the formula:
• The results are displayed on an LCD screen, allowing you to easily see your BMI and track
your progress over time. The machine is designed to be user-friendly and provides
accurate and reliable results in a matter of seconds.
This is how a actual BMI
machine will look liked.

BMI Calculation
Understanding BMI
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure that indicates whether you have a
healthy weight for your height.

Mainly components used :-
• Load sensors: These sensors are responsible for measuring your weight by
detecting the pressure exerted on the footpad of the machine. The sensors are
connected to the Arduino board and send the data to the board for processing.
• Ultrasonic sensors: These sensors are used to measure your height by detecting
the distance from the top of your head to the sensors. The sensors are connected
to the Arduino board and send the data to the board for processing.
• Arduino board: This is the main component of the BMI machine and is
responsible for processing the data from the load sensors and ultrasonic sensors.
The board performs the BMI calculation and sends the results to the LCD screen
for display.
• LCD screen: This is the display component of the BMI machine and is responsible
for showing the results of your BMI calculation. The screen displays your BMI and
allows you to easily track your progress over time.

• Health Assessment: BMI provides a simple and effective way to assess if your weight falls
within a healthy range for your height. It helps identify potential risks associated with being
underweight, overweight, or obese.
• Health Monitoring: By regularly measuring your BMI, you can monitor changes in your
weight and assess the effectiveness of your fitness and nutrition plans. It allows you to make
informed decisions about your health and take appropriate actions if needed.
• Disease Prevention: Maintaining a healthy BMI is linked to a lower risk of various chronic
diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Measuring BMI helps
identify individuals who may be at higher risk and allows for early intervention.
• Health Education: Understanding your BMI can empower you to make healthier choices. It
provides valuable insights into the impact of lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and
overall well-being.
