Mindfulness

Year 10S
Introduction

 Esther: Good morning and welcome to our assembly on ‘mindfulness’

 Lucia: In this video presentation we are going to explain what mindfulness is, as
well as giving you some ideas on what you can do in order to engage your brain
with this concept.

 Esther: Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of

where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by
what’s going on around us

 Lucia: Mindfulness is a quality that every human being already possesses, it’s not
something you have to conjure up, you just have to learn how to access it
Alvaro Martin

 The Types of Mindfulness Practice

 While mindfulness is already within us, it can be improved through proven
techniques. Here are some examples:
 Seated, walking, standing, and moving meditation (it’s also possible lying
down but often leads to sleep);
 Short pauses we put into everyday life;
 Merging meditation practice with other activities, such as yoga or sports.
Diego Merino

 This is why some people practice yoga. The positions for

yoga are physical, but the breathing techniques and
strategies are to help peace of mind. It is all about
thinking positively and being aware of your surroundings.
Nacho

 When we’re mindful, we reduce stress, enhance

performance, gain insight and awareness through
observing our own mind, and increase our
attention to others’ well-being.
Bianca

 This means that we look at every day life and think about
what is actually going on. Therefore in the current
climate, social media rules a lot fo what we do and can
detach us from real life. Mindfulness allows us to step
back into reality and be aware of the real world and what
is happening, both personally and to other people.
Javier Cabrera

 It is important to stress, mindfulness is not a special

added thing we do. We already have the capacity to be
present, and it doesn’t require us to change who we are.
But we can cultivate these in person qualities with simple
practices that are scientifically demonstrated to benefit
ourselves, our loved ones, our friends and neighbors, the
people we work with, and the institutions and
organizations we take part in.
Lola

 If we look at what is happening currently around the world

with Covid-19, there are many people dying, getting sick
and losing their Jobs. It is important we have compassion
for everyone. Mindfulness techniques such as meditation
can allow us to feel what is going on around us. It allows
the fast paced world to slow down so we can see and feel
everything.
Alvaro Moreno

 Meditation is a practice used to help mindfulness. It can be combined

with yoga as mentioned earlier but can be done on its own.
 It is a practice where you sit with your legs crossed, on a soft Surface
with your back straight and your eyes slightly closed.
 You focus solely on your breathing and the inhalation and exhalation
 You start to become aware of things in your life and what is important
to you and to those close to you.
Arantza

 By giving yourself to mindfulness techniques for just 5 or

10 minutes a day, you can see improvements in many
areas of your life… Firstly, you can relieve stress. A relieve
in stress gives you a more positive outlook on life and
improves your mental health.
Rafael

 Itcan also lead to you being more creative. If

your mind becomes clear, you can come up with
new ideas which could become beneficial to your
every day life. For example, it could be something
you create for your job or you family.
Du Mong

 As mentioned earlier, you can become more

aware of how you are acting in your every day life
and can determine whether that is positive or
negative. You may find you need to change things
slightly and focus your attention in different
areas.
Javier Chirino

 Soby taking a few moments out of your day to

slow down, remove all the surroundings and think
of nothing else other than yourself and what is
happening, you can also think of other people.
Maybe you will realise how you are treating
people and who is most important to you.
Julia

 Mindfulness will also help you determine whether others

require help. We are all so busy every day and everything
seems to go at 100mph, but by taking the time to consider
everything and everyone, it will open our eyes to who
really requires help and can help us build relationships.
Martina G

 We,as a form group, urge you to try and take 5

minutes out of your day. Take the time to focus on
your own body and mind, in a quoet place and to
see what comes to your mind.
Juni

 Mindfulness is a positive way of thinking. We become more

aware of our own life and what is important to us. We
become more aware of other people and our environment
and the world we live in. This is to create a better world
for all of us.
