It is a sentence that asks for information.
• It is also known as 'interrogative sentence'.

• General or Yes/No Questions


• Special or WH-Questions
• Choice Questions
• Disjunctive or Tag Questions

GENERAL OR YES/NO QUESTIONS


• These are common questions that can be answered
with a simple “yes” or “no”.
EXAMPLES:
• Did she clean the room?
– Yes, she did./ No, she didn’t.

• Have you done your homework?


– Yes, I have./ No, I haven’t.
TYPES OF QUESTIONS

SPECIAL OR WH-QUESTIONS
• It uses a certain word at the beginning of
the sentence to ask a specific question.

• Questions Words: who, what, where,


when, why, how, how many

EXAMPLES:
• What is the name of your pet?
• When do you feel like you’re beautiful?
• How many books are there in the library?

CHOICE QUESTIONS
• These are questions that offer a choice of
several options as an answer.

• They are made up of two parts, which


are connected by the conjunction ‘or’.

• Which do you prefer – coffee or tea?
• Would you like to go to Japan or Korea?
• Do you want to watch a movie or read

DISJUNCTIVE OR TAG QUESTIONS


• It is also made up of two parts, where the

• The 1 part of the sentence defines the

expected answer. If the statement is


positive, a positive answer is expected; if
the statement is negative, a negative answer
is expected.

Turning statements into
questions
Auxiliary Verb Subject Verb Tense

Example:

STATEMENT: She cleaned the house.


QUESTION: Did she clean the house?

NOTE:

Once you used an auxiliary verb in a question,


the main verb should be in base form.
