WHAT IS STATISTICAL REPRESENTATION?
Statistical representation in mathematics involves various graphical tools
for analyzing and interpreting data. Pictograms, pie charts, scatter
diagrams, histograms, and stem-and-leaf diagrams are examples of these
tools. Pictograms use pictures or symbols to make complex data more
accessible, pie charts depict data in a circular form, scatter diagrams plot
pairs of numerical data points, histograms display the distribution of
numerical data through contiguous bars, and stem-and-leaf diagrams
organize data into stems and leaves. These tools are crucial for
summarizing data, identifying patterns, and effectively communicating
findings for decision-making and problem-solving.
STEM AND LEAF DIAGRAMS
A stem-and-leaf diagram is a mathematical data
visualization tool that organizes and represents
numerical data. It consists of two parts: the stem,
representing the leading digits of each data point,
and the leaf, representing the trailing digits. This
arrangement allows for a compact representation
while preserving individual data points. Stem-and-
leaf diagrams are useful for identifying patterns,
trends, and distribution, as well as outliers and
anomalies, aiding in understanding numerical
information in fields like statistics, finance, and
scientific research.
PIE CHARTS
A pie chart is a mathematical circular representation that
visually shows data distribution by dividing the data set
into sectors, each representing a category or subgroup. It
is useful in fields like statistics, economics, business, and
social sciences for quick interpretation and analysis.
However, it should be used judiciously, as too many
categories or small differences can lead to
misinterpretation. Pie charts aid in quick comprehension
of data composition and facilitate comparison between
categories.
HISTOGRAMS

Histograms are visual representations of numerical

data, displaying the frequency distribution of data
within a specific interval. They consist of
rectangular bars, each representing the frequency
of data within that interval. Histograms are useful
for understanding data shape, center, spread, and
symmetry, and can identify modes, outliers, and
potential patterns. They are widely used in fields
like statistics, economics, biology, and engineering
for data analysis, hypothesis testing, quality
control, and decision-making. By presenting data
visually, histograms help researchers identify
trends, make comparisons, and draw meaningful
conclusions.
PICTOGRAMS

Pictograms are mathematical graphical

representations that use images or symbols to
simplify complex data sets, making them more
accessible and understandable. They are
commonly used in educational materials,
statistical reports, and presentations to illustrate
concepts, trends, or comparisons. Pictograms
are versatile, allowing creativity in design while
maintaining clarity in communication. They are
particularly valuable for conveying information
to diverse audiences, including children, non-
native speakers, and those with limited
mathematical proficiency.
SCATTER DIAGRAMS

Scatter diagrams are mathematical graphical

representations that display paired data
points on a Cartesian plane, representing a
unique combination of two variables. They
are used in fields like statistics, economics,
science, and social sciences to visually
assess relationships between variables, infer
positive, negative, or no correlations. They
are also used in regression analysis to model
and predict the relationship between
variables based on observed data points.

A2)A stem-and-leaf diagram provides insights into the distribution of data, including the
range of values, central tendency, and variability. Additionally, it allows for the
identification of outliers and patterns within the dataset.

Q3)The purpose of a scatter diagram is to visually display the relationship between two
variables and identify any patterns, trends, or correlations present in the data.
