Quantum Computing

In 1998, researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory, MIT, and the University of California at Berkeley created the first 2-qubit quantum computer that could be loaded with data and output a solution. Quantum computing utilizes quantum mechanics to solve complex problems faster than classical computers. Unlike classical bits that are either 0 or 1, quantum bits or qubits can exist in multiple states simultaneously. While quantum computing promises exponential speed and efficiency, challenges include qubit decoherence and error correction. Current research focuses on applications, industry collaborations, and hardware innovations to address limitations and further quantum computing technology.

Quantum Computing

In 1998 Isaac Chuang of Los Alamos National Laboratory, Neil Gershenfeld of

the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), and Mark Kubinec of the University of
California at Berkeley created the first quantum computer (2-qubit) that could be
loaded with data and output a solution.
Introduction
• Quantum computing is a multidisciplinary field comprising aspects of
computer science, physics, and mathematics that utilizes quantum mechanics
to solve complex problems faster than on classical computers.
• Quantum computing is a type of computing that leverages the principles of
quantum mechanics, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform
operations on data. Unlike classical computers that use bits to represent
either a 0 or a 1, quantum computers use quantum bits or qubits, which can
exist in multiple states simultaneously.
• Quantum computing revolutionizes data processing using quantum
phenomena, promising exponential speed and efficiency.

Quantum systems are sensitive to their surroundings, which
can lead to decoherence. This phenomenon can cause the loss
of quantum information and errors in the form of noise and
faults.

Error Correction
Quantum error correction is a major challenge for quantum
computing. Researchers are exploring error correction techniques and
quantum error-resistant algorithms to mitigate this challenge.
