FUNCTIONS
What is a function?

A built-in formula that is a

shortcutConcept
for common

calculations such as
addition and average.
COUNTIF FUNCTION
one of the statistical functions, to count the
number of cells that meet a criterion

SYNTAX
=COUNTIF (range,criteria)
 Range – the cells where the counting will take place.
 Criteria – the label or value that determines if it is to be counted.
AVERAGE FUNCTION
calculates the average (arithmetic mean) of
supplied numbers.

SYNTAX
=AVERAGE (number1,number2,…cells involve)
VLOOKUP FUNCTION
VLOOKUP stands for 'Vertical Lookup'. It is a function that
makes Excel search for a certain value in a column (the so
called 'table array'), in order to return a value from a different
column in the same row.

SYNTAX
=VLOOKUP (lookup_value, table_array,
col_index_num, [range_lookup])
VLOOKUP function exists of 4 components:
 The value you want to look up;
 The range in which you want to find the value and the return value;
 The number of the column within your defined range, that contains the return value;
 0 or FALSE for an exact match with the value you are looking for; 1 or TRUE for an
approximate match.
IF FUNCTION
it allows you to make logical comparisons
between a value and what you expect.

SYNTAX
=IF (logical_test,[value_if_true],[value_if_false])
 logical_test - A value or logical expression that can be evaluated as TRUE or FALSE.
 value_if_true - The value to return when the logical test evaluates to TRUE.
 value_if_false - The value to return when the logical test evaluates to FALSE.
AVERAGEIF FUNCTION
Calculates the average of all numbers in a
range of cells based on a given criterion.

SYNTAX
=AVERAGEIF (range,criteria,average range)
 Range – the range of cells where you want to look for the criteria.
 Criteria – a value or label that determines if a cell is a part of the averaged.
 Average Range – the actual range cells that will be averaged, if omitted, the range will be used instead.
