What is Surveillance robot?
• A remote controlled surveillance robot is defined as any robot that is
remotely controlled to capture images/video for specific purposes.
Introduction
• Surveillance is the process in which people, places, or things are
monitored usually for the purpose of influencing, managing and
directing.
• A robot is nothing but an automatic electronic machine that is capable of
performing programmed activities replacing human work.
• Due to advancement in technology, these surveillance robots are used in
remote as well as domestic areas.
• This surveillance robot requires a lot of essential
hardware components for proper functioning.
1. Arduino Uno
2. hc-05 Bluetooth Module
3. DC motors
4. Battery cell
5. Battery holder
6. Switch
7. Jumper wires
Literature Survey
• Surveillance is major thing at places like international borders in order to
stop or prevent any illegal entries into the country. It is a tough job to do
as it involves a lot of risk. This proposes soldiers to be replaced by a
robot which can do the surveillance and thereby reducing the risk
drastically[1].
• The ordinary border patrol system is affected by thorough human
involvement. Recent automated border patrol systems consist of new
technological devices like drones, sensors devices and surveillance
towers with wireless camera. However, each of these have problems like
area of effect, wrong detections and line of sight constraints[2].
• Robots perform better surveillance when integrated with various
technologies. It mainly integrates with cameras for monitoring and
sensors for detecting any change. It uses a variety of sensors to acquire
information on everything around the area it was to monitor[3].
Problem Statement
• CCTV system is commonly used for surveillance purpose.
• A major disadvantage for CCTV cameras is that they can only
monitor a limited area.
• The present surveillance system available in the market is very costly
which is not affordable for some small scale industries or organization.
• The Surveillance Robot is a system that helps to overcome
the disadvantages.
• This system aims to develop a smart surveillance system which is easy
to implement and handle.
Surveillance Robot Objective:

The objective of this project is to build a wireless robot for surveillance application with live video streaming, The goal of
surveillance robot is to keep an eye on remote area. The important objectives that are associated in installing robot system are
1. Saving manpower
2. Improve quality and efficiency.
3. Ability to work in any unfriendly environment.
Abstract: To transmit live video through wireless RF channel to remote work station
• Wireless camera will send real time video which could be seen on a remote monitor and action can be taken accordingly.
• Combining several existing technologies and wireless internet and hardware controllers, into a system that can perform a job
of night security guard.
Methodology
• A robot can be controlled using Bluetooth module HC-05 and
ATMEGA328P-PU microcontroller with android Smartphone device.
The controlling devices of the whole system are a microcontroller.
• Bluetooth module, DC motors are interfaced to the microcontroller.
• The data receive by the Bluetooth module from android smart phone is
fed input to the controller.
• The controller acts accordingly on the DC motor of the robot. The
robot can move to move in all the four directions using the android
phone.
• Also an app is developed using MIT app inventor.
Components

Arduino Uno
4 wheel robot car kit

hc- 05 Bluetooth module L293D motor control shield

Jumper wires Battery Cell

Power On-Off Switch Battery Holder

Block Diagram

L293D
1. Arduino Uno : It is a microcontroller board based on the
ATmega328P.
2. hc-05 Bluetooth module : It is designed for wireless
communication.
3. DC motors : This converts direct current (DC) electrical energy into
mechanical energy.
4. 18650 Battery cell (3.7V) : These devices accept, store and release
electricity on demand.
5. L293D motor control shield : It is used drive 4 DC motors at the
same time.
6. Battery holder : It is used to hold the cell.
7. Switch : It is used to turn on and turn off.
8. Jumper wires : It is used to connect two points on the circuit.
Expected Outcomes
• A surveillance robot is a robot that is remotely controlled to capture
images or videos for specific purposes. Mobile robots that are
controlled remotely have important rules in area of rescue and military.
• The user can also monitor the house.
• Aim of this work is to design and control the motion of robot using
bluetooth device of an Android phone.
Applications
• Robots can monitor the grounds.
• Remote areas can also be explored.
• Used to record and send video output of the required environment.
• It also captures picture by every moment that detects.
Advantages
• Assured safety.
• Flexible, monitored control.
• Can operate at any time of the day.
• Compact in size. Easily reconfigured to other robotic applications
where humans can be in danger like nuclear plants, oil refining,
buildings damaged due to natural calamities etc.
• Real time live video streaming.
Disadvantages

• They require a large base station in order to communicate with

the robot.
• There is also the problem of evil people using robots for evil purposes.
• The operating range for the robot is limited.
• It is designed for plane surfaces where it can move very perfectly but
the wheels will not work on rough bases.
• The power requirement is fulfilled using batteries so when they
get discharged they need to be replaced.
