Problem Based Learning and Product Based Learning

The document discusses problem-based learning and project-based learning, noting that problem-based learning involves a process of inquiry where learners collaboratively work to solve open-ended problems, with the goal of achieving targeted learning competencies. It provides details on the nature of problem-based learning, including that it is student-centered with the teacher serving as a facilitator, and gives examples of how problem-based learning can be applied to mathematics and science curriculums.

Learning Outcomes:
• Discuss the salient features of Problem-Based Learning and
Project-Based Learning and its application to the attainment
of learning competencies and learning outcomes.
• Analyze how technologies for teaching and learning can be
maximized in Problem-Based learning and Project-Based
learning.

• Share some performance standards from the curriculum

guide that can employ Problem-Based Learning.

Nature of Problem-Based
Learning
 Involves a process of inquiry and solving
open-ended questions that serve as the
main problem that the learners will work
on.
 Learners are engaged in collaborative
tasks.

End goal of PBL:
To ensure that the target
learning competencies are achieved
in the process.
ALI (2019)
PBL- a process that is used to
identify problems with a scenario
to increase the knowledge and
understanding.
5 Principles of PBL (Ali, 2019)
1. Independent and self-directed learning.
2. Learning happens in a group and teacher is a
facilitator.
3. All groups have to participate equally.
4. Student’s learn about motivation, teamwork,
problem-solving, engagement with the task.
5. Materials such as data, photographs,
articles, can be used to solve the problem.
PBL in Mathematics
Elementary: At the end of a geometry
unit, students create a flyer for a business or
event that uses all geometric shapes. They must
include the shapes' names and definitions on
the flyer. How students choose to incorporate
the shapes and their definitions is up to them.
PBL in Science
Problem based learning tasks can easily
be created from a normal laboratory
investigation by simply restructuring the
activity. For instance there are several
teacher designed laboratory investigations
where students are given a limited set of
materials and procedures to follow.

PBL?
