Motivation

• When Mam was given this task to select any topic. I myself
observed that I am on the phone a lot these days, So I decided to
discuss these topic and it's not only mine but also people around us.
Problem Definition
• When you spend more time on social media or
playing games or you can’t stop yourself from
repeatedly checking texts, email, or apps – even
when it has negative consequence in your life.
• Smartphone Addiction, sometimes in general
known as “nomophobia”.
• Nomophobia is the fear of being without a mobile
phone.
• Smartphone Addiction is often fuelled by an
internet overuse problem or internet addiction
disorder.

Causes and Effects
• Most of us are rarely ever more than five feet from
our smartphone. Like alcohol and drugs, they can
trigger the release of brain chemical dopamine and
alter your mood.
• Heavy Smartphone use can often causes underlying
problems, such as stress, anxiety, depression, or
loneliness.
• If you use Smartphone as a “Security Blanket” to
relieve feelings of awkwardness in social situation.
• For example, you’ll succeed only in cutting yourself
off further from people around you. Staring at your
phone will deny you the face to face interactions

Causes and Effects
• Increasing Loneliness and Depression
• Fuelling Anxiety
• Increase Stress
• Attention Deficit Disorder – extreme
information can make impossible to focus
attention.
• Diminishing your ability to Concentrate and
Think Deeply or Creatively
• Disturbing your Sleep

Warning Sign of Smartphone Overuse
• Trouble completing tasks at work or home
• Isolation from Family and Friends
• Concealing your Smartphone use
• Having Fear of Missing Out – feel out of loop or
think you’re missing out on important news or
information if you don’t check your phone
regularly. Therefore we compulsively check social
media.
• Feeling of dread, anxiety, or panic if you leave your
smartphone at home

Modify your Smartphone Use
• Set Limit for when you can use your smartphone
• Turn off your phone at certain times of the day
• Don’t bring your phone or tablet to bed
• Replace your smartphone use with healthier
activities
• Remove Social Media Apps from phone
• Control your fear of Missing Out
