Mostadam Green Building Rating System is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s

own building system.

Sustainability
Requirements
Introduction
Introduction
Mostadam has been developed by
Sustainable Building as a comprehensive
sustainability rating and certification
system to address the long-term
sustainability of residential buildings in
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Mostadam addresses a wide range of
sustainability issues important to KSA
and supports the aspirations of Vision
2030.
THE BENEFITS OF
MOSTADAM
Mostadam specifically works to promote energy and
water conservation, improve waste management, and
reduce the environmental impact of construction
practices.
Rating levels
A project’s score is the sum of all the
credit points achieved. There are five
different rating levels:
Green, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond.
The number of credits points required for
each rating level is
shown in Table
Implementing
Mostadam for
Residential Buildings
Monitoring Period
For an existing building to be eligible for a Mostadam O+E rating, its performance
must be monitored
over a minimum period of one year at a minimum occupancy of 75%. The following
parameters, which
link to Keystone credits, are required to be checked and recorded each month
during the performance
Monitoring Period:
• Energy consumption
• Water consumption
• Waste generation
During the first six months of the Monitoring Period, procedures and policies must
be developed for
certain keystone credits and optional credits as listed in Table 3. The procedures
and policies must then
be implemented for a minimum of six months and evidence of their
implementation provided as part of
the submission. If a building is undergoing renovation, refurbishment and/or
extension works, this must
be completed before the start of the Monitoring Period. The contents of a typical
policy or procedure is Shown

process are defined
Policies, Management and Maintenance
Policies, Management and
Maintenance

Policies, Management and Maintenance emphasizes the development and

implementation of policies and procedures to manage and maintain the sustainable
operation of buildings. It encourages sustainable procurement and sustainable
maintenance and requires the implementation of an annual audit.
Policies, Management and Maintenance also address operational waste
management. The average per capita waste generation rate in KSA is 1.5 to 1.8kg
per day. With a total population of 29 million, this amounts to approximately 15
million tons of solid waste per year Vision 2030 aims to overcome the challenge of
escalated waste production rates through efficient waste management systems
through two major initiatives: the National Transformation Program (NTP) and the
Integrated Waste Management Plan. Mostadam supports this Vision and rewards
projects based on building performance and ongoing waste management.
Residential Building Project Aiming To Achieve Mostadam Saudia Certification
The Contractor shall design and construct the residential building
located at Riyadh by the sustainability requirements of Mostadam
Saudia to achieve a minimum Mostadam rating of [insert desired
rating level]. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Energy Efficiency: The Contractor shall design and implement
energy-efficient building systems, including lighting, HVAC, and
appliances, to reduce energy consumption.
Water Efficiency: The Contractor shall incorporate water-efficient
fixtures and landscaping practices to minimize water usage and
promote water conservation.
Materials and Resources: The Contractor shall use sustainable and
locally sourced materials, as well as minimize waste generation and
promote recycling and reuse of materials.
Indoor Environmental Quality: The Contractor shall prioritize
indoor air quality by using low-emission materials and providing
adequate ventilation.
Site Development: The Contractor shall employ sustainable site
development practices to minimize site disturbance, manage
stormwater runoff, and preserve natural habitats.
The Contractor shall provide documentation and evidence of
compliance with the Mostadam Saudia rating system throughout the
design and construction phases. Failure to meet the minimum
Mostadam rating specified shall result in penalties as outlined in the
contract."
