Objective:

Differentiate plant and animal cells

according to presence or absence of
certain organelles.
Let’s do this!

Find Me!

Questions
• What was the video all about?
• Can you name some cell parts or organelles
mentioned in the song?
Let’s do an activity!
Reminders:
1. Do not make unnecessary noise while doing the
task.
2. Avoid loitering or roaming around.
3. Be time conscious.
4. Cooperate with your groupmates.
5. Once the task is done, post your output on the
board.
Activity: Organize Me!
 Group 1 will organize an animal cell and Group 2
will have the plant cell.
 Each group will be provided by pictures of
different cell parts and its names (nucleus, golgi
bodies, endoplasmic reticulum, microtubules,
mitochondrion etc.)
 The groups will arranged the cell parts and present
their output in a creative way on a manila paper.
Activity: Organize Me!
• Group 3 will have a tabular representation of the cell parts
present in the plant and animal cell where they will match
the pictures with the functions of the organelles.

• This activity will be done for 5 minutes.

• Once you are done, post you output on the board.
• One representative for each group will present their
output.

Discovery of the Cells

Who discovered the

cell?

• He described the cells

as tiny boxes or a
honeycomb.
• He used a compound
microscope.
The Cell organelles and their
functions
THREE BASIC PARTS
cell membrane

cytoplasm

nucleus

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Cell membrane or Plasma membrane
• “Security guard” of the cell
• Controls what goes in and out of the cell.

cell membrane

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Nuclues
• “Brain” of the cell
• Controls all the activities inside the cell (command center of the cell)
• Contains DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid)

cell membrane

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Cytoplasm
• a jelly-like substance and serves as the matrix for various
cell organelles

Cytoplasm

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Mitochondria
• “Powerhouse” of the cell
• It releases energy needed for cell activities.

Mitochondria

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Ribosomes
• Protein factories of the cells
• Carry out instructions from the nucleus to synthesize protein.

Ribosomes

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Nucleolus
• Where ribosomes are produced
• Found inside the nuclues

Nucleolus

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Endoplasmic reticulum
• Produces protein, lipid and carbohydrates.
• Rough ER: contains ribosomes (proteins are
made)
• Smooth ER: no ribosomes (lipids and
carbohydrates are made

Endoplasmic
reticulum

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Golgi Body/Golgi Apparatus
• “Mailman” of the cell
• Responsible for transporting, modifying and packaging proteins and
lipids into vesicles for delivery to the targeted destinations.

Golgi body

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Vacuoles
• “Storage rooms” of the cell
• Storage for food, water and even wastes
• In animal cell it is called “vesicles” and “large vacuole” for plant cell

Vacuoles

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Lysosomes
• “Suicide bag” of the cell and act as waste disposal system.
• Digest or breakdown trash in the cytoplasm.
• Acts as “garbage collector” of the cell.

Lysosomes

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Centrioles
• A cylindrical structure
which play an important
role in cell division.
• Only found in animal cell
Chloroplast
Cell wall

 - maintains the shape and

serves as mechanical
support of the cell
 It is made of cellulose
 Only found in plant cell, fungi,
bacteria, algae and some
archaea
Chromosomes
• Found in the nucleus and contain the genetic material
DNA (blueprint of life)

Chromosomes

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

Microtubules
• they facilitates cell movement, cell division and transportation of
materials within the cells.
Microtubules

Activity: Compare and Contrast

Directions: Each group will make a Venn Diagram

which shows the similarities and differences
between plant and animal cell organelles
What is Venn diagram?
• A Venn diagram illustrates the
relationships between two or
more data sets.
• Venn diagrams are especially
useful for highlighting
similarities and differences and
are commonly used to compare
and contrast the characteristics
of different data sets.
• In a Venn diagram, circles are
used to represent each data set.
For Example:
Directions: Compare and contrast plant cell and
animal cell organelles using a Venn diagram

Endoplasmic reticulum, Chloroplast, Centrioles, lysosome, Nucleolus, vacuole,

The cell in our body can be compared to a factory in terms
of the function of its parts. Look at the given figure below.
•Are cells important? Why?
•What will happen if cells never
existed?
•How can you make your body cells
healthy?
