INTRODUCTIO
 A watershed is an area of land
N
where all the water that falls from
the sky or flows from higher areas
collects into a single point, like a
river, lake, or ocean. It’s like a
natural boundary that determines
where water drains to.

This helps in understanding the

drainage patterns and managing
water resources effectively. It’s like
drawing the map of a watershed.
INTRODUCTIO
Watershed delineation is
N
the process of identifying
the boundaries of a
watershed. It involves
analyzing the topography
and flow patterns of the
land to determine where the
water flows and collects.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

The decline in water quality parameters of river asa has

become a significant concern. The river is a source of
drinking water, irrigation and fishing. However, the water
quality parameters has been declining due to various
source of pollution along the river.
AIM
The aim of this research is to evaluate effects of watershed
delineation on the prediction of water quality parameters
of river Asa, Kwara State.
OBJECTIVES
 to model and predict water quality parameters in the watershed
 to delineate the selected watershed in various numbers of sub-
basins
 to study the effects of watershed delineation in the prediction of
water quality parameters of the basin.
SCOPE OF STUDY
The study is limited to study the effect of watershed delineation.
 The research will use 20 years of metrological data for the
prediction of watershed delineation. Also, calibration and validation
of the model will not be accomplished in this research because
there is lack of observed flow data.
JUSTIFICATION
The study is essential in addressing the rate of declinig of water
quality in the region.
The study will provide valuable information that can be used to
improve valuable information that can be used to improve water
quality and protect the health of the people living in the region.

noted that the predicted values of water
quality parameters (Nitrate, organic
phosphorus and sediment concentration)
are directly proportional to increase in
the number of sub-basins delineated in
the watershed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY AREA
Oyun River is located between latitude
9050’ and 8024’ North and Longitudes 4038’
and 4003’ east.

It originates at an elevation of 465.003m

close to ilaOragun, and flows in an
approximately northeast direction for about
80km before joining river Asa (Mustafa
and Yusuf , 2012)

River oyun is the main source of water for

offa town and its neigbors, and as well as
the main source of raw water for the
university of ilorin water supply scheme.

EXPECTED RESULTS

At the end of this research, this are the following expected result:

modelling and prediction of water quality parameters of river Asa would be

accomplished.
Delineating the selected watershed into various sub-basins of 20, 30, and 50

would be carried out

The effects of watershed delineation in prediction of water quality parameters

of the basins will be achieved.
