CRUISE
A trip on a large ship for pleasure, during which you visit several places
• A cruise ship is a passenger ship used for recreational and leisure
voyages, in which the journey itself and the onboard amenities,
attractions, activities and entertainment options are integrant part of
the cruise experience.
History
• British shipping- Large-scale shipping lines became widespread in the
nineteenth century, after the development of the steamship in 1783.
At first, Great Britain was the center of development; in 1819, the first
steamship crossing of the Atlantic Ocean took place and by 1833,
shipping lines had begun to operate steamships between Britain and
British Empire possessions such as India and Canada.
• Three major British shipping lines were founded in the 1830s: the
British and American Steam Navigation Company, the Great Western
Steamship Company and the Peninsular Steam Navigation Company
• American shipping
The United States federal government passed the Shipping Act of 1916 as a protection
agency for American shipping.
The act, passed during World War I but before the nation officially entered the war, helped
American shipping lines during a period when commercial shipping grew under the
demands of the war. Under this act, the United States Shipping Board was also formed.
In 1920, after the end of World War I, the federal government passed the
Merchant Marine Act to protect American shipping interests in response to changing foreign
shipping policy.
The responsibilities established under the Shipping Act were eventually transferred to the
Department of Commerce in 1933 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The Federal Maritime Commission was created in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy to
regulate shipping activity in the United States.

smaller ships than ocean
liners, as they travel to more
far-flung places.
Mega Cruise Ship
• A mega cruise ship is one of the
most popular types of cruise.
These ships can typically
accommodate 5000+ guests.
These are the types of ships –
and vacations – which will
generally spring to mind when
you hear the word ‘cruise’ –
except they are the biggest of
these typical cruise ships.

Luxury Cruise
• they tend to offer a much higher
quality of service: private dining
rooms, butlers, gourmet
restaurants with world-class chefs,
opulent decor, strict dress codes
and more.
Themed Cruise
This type of cruise tends to occur mostly on

ocean liners – for example, Disney even have
their own cruise line offering ocean cruises
entirely themed around Disney movies and
characters. From singing the movie soundtracks
at the incredible evening shows to relaxing on
Disney’s private island to fireworks at sea, you
get the whole magical experience on a cruise
ship.
Adventure Cruise
• An adventure cruise is very
similar to an expedition cruise.
One minor difference is that
adventure cruises usually
involve a level of physical
activity –With an adventure
cruise, the main focus is on
the off-vessel activities. This
could be anything from
kayaking to horse riding,
snorkeling to even camping.
Single Cruise
• A singles cruise is another
popular sub- type of cruise. This
is a single person who traveler
or 50 and over. With no single
complement, and of course
*everyone else* being single, it
is ideal if you’re looking to go on
a cruise to make new friends,
find a new partner or just enjoy
some you-time.
• MSC Cruises ( Mediterranean Shipping Company) is a wider
Mediterranean Shipping Company sub-division and functions as a
cruise line. The company was founded in 1989, has its headquarters in
Geneva, Switzerland, and is one of the largest employers in the entire
cruise ship industry, providing jobs for in excess of 23,000 people in
total.
• The cruise line operates with a fleet of 17 vessels, with plans to
increase this to 25 ships over the next decade. It is estimated that
around 3 million passengers board MSC cruise ships each year, and
the company provides services to more than 200 destinations spread
across five different continents.
Mediterranean Shipping Company
All inclusive
• All inclusive cruise packages are overall good deals. basically foods
and entertainment are covered. Though, understand that over all are
not truly all inclusive. Some items cost extra.
• Example: restaurant, drink package, etc. there are some charges
added in the guest account.
Luxury Cruise
• Luxury means expensive
• Luxury means exclusivity
• Luxury means unique experiences
• Luxury means expeditions
• Luxury means convenience
• Luxury means personalized service
