Lesson 10.2 Male Reproductive System

The document provides a lesson on the male reproductive system, describing the parts including the testes, scrotum, epididymis, vas deferens, urethra, penis and their functions. The learning objectives are to discuss the parts of the male reproductive system and their functions, and how it differs from the female reproductive system. The lesson includes diagrams of the male anatomy and descriptions of processes like spermatogenesis, vasectomy and circumcision.

Learning Competency

At the end of this lesson, the given enabling competency

should be met by the students.

Describe the parts and functions of the human

reproductive system.
Learning Objectives

At the end of this lesson, the learner should be able to

do the following:

● Discuss the parts of male reproductive system and

their respective functions, and

● Discuss the functions of male reproductive system

that differentiate it from female reproductive system.
While the female reproductive
system is designed not only to
reproduce gametes and
produce female hormones, it
also carries and nourishes an
offspring. The male
reproductive organs serve a
more distinct purpose
compared with that of a
female.
The reproductive duty
of a male is to produce
gametes and deliver
them to the female
reproductive tract. The
organs themselves
differ in structure and
appearance.
What are the
components and
functions of the male
reproductive system?
How do they differ from
that of the female
reproductive system?
Try it!
Warm-Up

Male Reproductive System Puzzle

1. Cut out and arrange the
given organs where they are
supposed to be connected.
2. With your group, trace the
path of a sperm cells from
the testes.
3. Brainstorm the functions of
these organs with your group.
Learn about It

Components: Testes
● The male reproductive
system has two testes.
● Their function is to
produce male sex cells
called sperm cells.
● The sperm cells develop
inside the seminiferous Seminiferous tubule
tubules.
Learn about It

Components: Scrotum
● The scrotum is a bag
of skin that contains
the testes.

● It is a reproductive
structure that is
located under the
penis.
The scrotum
Learn about It

Components: Scrotum
● Within the scrotum are
muscles known as the
dartos and cremaster
muscles.

● These play important

roles in maintaining the
temperature of the
scrotum. The scrotum
Learn about It

Components: Epididymis
● Mature sperm cells are later
on stored in a tube beside
the testes known as the
epididymis.

● The sperm cells are stored

until they are released from
the body through a process
known as ejaculation. The male reproductive system
Learn about It

Components: Vas Deferens and Urethra

● During ejaculation, the
sperm cells move from
the epididymis to a tube
called the vas deferens,
then into another tube
known as the urethra,
and finally out of the
body.
The male reproductive system
Learn about It

Vasectomy
● Vasectomy is a method of
birth control that deals
with cutting or blocking the
tube of vas deferens.

● This prevents sperm cells

from being transported
out of the body.
Vasectomy
Learn about It

Components: Penis
● The penis is the external
part of the male
reproductive system.

● It is a tube-shaped organ
that contains the urethra,
which allows it to pass the
urine and semen out of the
body. The male reproductive system
Learn about It

Circumcision
● Many cultures practice a
medical process known
as circumcision.

● This process involves the

partial or complete
removal of the prepuce
to expose the glans Circumcision
penis.
Learn about It

Accessory Glands
● The male reproductive system also has a series of organs
known as the accessory glands.

● These glands secrete substances that aid in the

nourishment of sperm cells and contribute to higher
chances of fertilization.

○ Examples of these are the seminal glands,

bulbourethral glands, and the prostate glands.
Learn about It

The Male Reproductive System

● The production, development, and maturation of
sperm cells occur in the male reproductive system.

● The primary male sex hormone is known as testosterone,

and it is produced by the testes.

● Another function of the male reproductive system is to

safely and properly deposit the sperm cells into the
female reproductive tract.
Key Points

● The male reproductive system

is composed of the testes, scrotum, epididymis, vas deferens, urethra, penis, sperm
ducts, and accessory glands.

● The gonads
of the male reproductive system are the testes. The male reproductive system consists
of two testes.
Key Points

● The male reproductive system

is specialized for the production of sperm cells and their deposition into the female
reproductive tract.

● The functions of the male reproductive system

include the production, development, and maturation of sperm cells that occur in the
male reproductive system.

● The type of gametogenesis

that occurs in male organisms is known as spermatogenesis.
Check Your Understanding

Write the word true if the given statement is correct

or false if otherwise.
1. Males have a significant amount of estrogen.
2. The exit points for urine and sperm are different.
3. The sperm ducts include the seminal vesicles and the
vas deferens.
4. Prostate fluid neutralizes acidity.
5. The scrotum is an internal organ.
