INTERNAL
CUSTOMER
NEEDS
 The motor may consume less power
 Does it have a noiseless operation?
 Is the repairability of the control
system good?
 Whether the motor works on both
AC and DC?
 The size of motor should be small
 Does it have a rapid movement of
screen?
 The heat dissipation may be low.
 Overall cost of controller should be
low.
 Reliability of the controller may be
high.
EXTERNAL
CUSTOMER
NEEDS
 The projector screen and the control
mechanism may be of lightweight
and in small size.
 The projector screen control
mechanism may have a power
backup.
 The control may have less time delay.
 The control system may be remote
operated
 There may be an uninterrupted
operation.
 The control mechanism can be both
remote and switch controlled.
 The screen can be controlled using
the faculty’s mobile.

REQUIREMENTS – INFERENCE FROM
CUSTOMER IMPORTANCE
• Silent and smooth operation
• Optimum operation speed of screen
• Good coefficient of friction in belt.
• Control using mobile.
• Good bending and torsional strength of shaft.
• Less slippage of belt.
• Compactness of controller
• Low cost of materials used.
• Self locking mechanism.
• High tensile strength of belt.
• Good heat dissipation design.
• Corrosion free materials.
• The life of the controller should be high.
CONSTRAINTS
• Small distance between shaft and motor
• The weight of the controller should be as low as possible.
• The range of remote operation is limited to a particular distance.
• The electrical components should be earthed.
• Use of AC current is preferred as it is easily available.
• The controller should be protected from external forces.
BENCHMARK EXISTING PRODUCT
THE Z-WAVE PROJECTOR SCREEN
CONTROLLER
• The benchmarked product is actually used to control home theatre
screen.
• Projector screens upto 11 metre wide can be controlled.
• The control system uses a 12V power supply to the motor.
• Can control the projector screen using mobile, Tablet or PC from 50
metres away!
HOUSE OF QUALITY MATRIX (HOQ)
CONCEPTUAL DESIGN
• A sketch that shows the general outline of all components and
functions of the product is called a conceptual design.
