Introduction
• In recent times helmets have been made compulsory in India. Traffic accidents in India
have increased year by year.

• As per Section 129 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 makes it compulsory for every single riding
a two-wheeler to wear protective headgear following standards of the BIS (Bureau of
Indian Standards).

• In India drink and drive case is a criminal offence of The Motor Vehicle act 1939. Which
states that the bike rider will get punished if he drinks and drive.

• These are the three main issues which motivates us for developing this project. The first
step is to identify the helmet whether worn or not.

• If helmet is worn then ignition will start otherwise it will remain off till helmet is worn.

• For these we use FSR sensor. The second step is alcohol detection. Alcohol sensor is
used as breath analyzer which detect the presence of alcohol in rider breathe if it exceeds
permissible range ignition cannot start. It will send the message to register number.

In the last ten years, European Commission has deeply investigated the concern of Powered Two Wheelers
(PTW) accidents in the European roads, trying to focus on the improvement of road safety through the
introduction of Intelligence Transportation Systems.

TS technologies provide vehicles with different types and levels of intelligence to complement the driver.
Information systems expand the driver’s knowledge of routes and locations. Warning systems, such as collision
avoidance technologies, enhance the driver’s ability to sense the surrounding environment. Driver assistance
and automation technologies simulate the driver’s sensorimotor system to operate a vehicle either temporarily
during emergencies or for prolonged periods.

A smart helmet is a special idea which makes motorcycle driving safer than before. This is implemented using
GSM and GPS technology. The working of this smart helmet is very simple, vibration sensors are placed in
different places of helmet where the probability of hitting is more which are connected to microcontroller
board.
Problem Statement
• Impaired Riding: Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is risky.

• Vehicle Interactions: Collisions with cars or pedestrians are common issues.

• Lack of Protective Gear: Some cyclists don't wear helmets or other safety
gear.

• Lack of Resources: When an accident occurs in a remote area where there is

nobody around, calling an Ambulance will become a matter of life.

• Getting help from family: To let your family know about the accident and the
location of accident.

Objectives
• The objective of the project is to develop a cutting-edge solar-powered smart helmet and
intelligent bike system.

• This innovative solution aims to enhance rider safety and convenience by integrating
features such as real-time environmental monitoring, GPS navigation, hands-free
communication, and an adaptive lighting system.

• By harnessing solar energy, it promotes sustainability and reduces the reliance on

traditional power sources.

• The project's goal is to create a seamless and intelligent biking experience that prioritizes
safety, connectivity, and eco-friendliness, ultimately making riding safer and more enjoyable
for riders.

Proposed Methodology
• This project in two units namely helmet and bike.

• In helmet unit, the force sensing resistor is placed on the inner upper part of the
helmet where actually head comes in contact with sensor surface.

• Alcohol sensor is placed in front of rider’s mouth where it can sense alcohol intake
easily. Solar panels are mounted on the outer upper side of helmet which is in direct
sunlight.

• The battery and regular circuits are fixed inside the helmet. Secondary controller and
RF transmitter circuit are also placed inside the helmet, antenna are located outside
the helmet.

• The bike unit is mounted on actual bike. Accelerometer was fixed on bike, for the fall
detection.

Expected results
• Improved Safety: These systems can provide real-time data on the rider's location and
condition, enhancing safety by alerting riders to potential dangers.

• Emergency Response: Smart helmets can automatically send distress signals in the event of
an accident, ensuring a faster response from emergency services.

• Insurance Benefits: Some insurance companies offer discounts to riders using smart
helmets and bike monitoring systems, as they are perceived as safer.

• Community Building: These systems can create communities of riders who share
information and promote safe cycling practices.

• Theft Protection: The outcomes of the project have showed that the bike ignition will start if the
helmet is worn so it can avoid bike from being stolen.

Advantages / Applications
Advantages:
• Detection of accident in remote area can be easily detected and medical services provided in short
time.
• Simply avoiding drunken drive by using alcohol detector. it will reduces the probability of accident
• Operates on solar as well as battery supply.

Application:
• It can be used in real time safety system.
• We can implement the whole circuit into small module later.
• Less power consuming safety system.
• This safety system technology can further be enhanced in car and also by replacing the helmet with
seat belt.
