• Assam covers an area of 78,438 km2

• It is characterized by it’s lush landscapes, with the Brahmaputra

• river flowing through the state.

• It is known for its tea industry, Assam silk and biodiversity.

• Assam is a home to the one-horned rhinoceros located in

Kaziranga National Park.

• Kamakhya temple is an oldest and famous Hindi temple located in

Guwahati, Assam.
• The capital of Assam is Dispur
• Dispur is Administrative Hub of
Government of Assam.
• There are many tourist attractions in
Dispur like Assam State Museum,
Assam State Zoo and Botanical
Garden, Srimant Shakardeva
Kalashetra, Navagraha, Shilpagram and
Kamakhya Temple etc.
Languages in Assam
Assamese is the official language of Assam,
and one of the 22 official languages
recognized by Republic of India.

Other majorly spoken languages include


Bodo, Bengali.
ART AND CULTURE
Art and Craft
Assam has maintained various traditional crafts like
cane and bamboo craft, bellmetal and brass craft ,
silk and cotton weaving, pottery and terra cotta,
woodcraft, toy and mask making etc.

Culture
Assam has a vibrant culture with diverse dance
forms, music, and festivals.
Bihu is the most famous festival, celebrated
with traditional dance, music, and feasts.
Dress
The traditional dress for Men remains Dhoti-Kurta while
women are known for their “Mekhela-Chador“ or “Riha-
Mekhela”.

If there’s anything the Assamese are proud of, it’s their


Muga silk. The traditional Mekhela chador is made from
the notable Muga silk.
Food
• The staple food of Assamese cuisine is
Rice, which is often served with a variety
of meat, fish, and vegetable dishes.

• One of the most famous foods in Assam is


Khar.

• Traditional dishes include Assam Laksa,


Masor Tenga (sour fish curry), and various
types of Assam Tea.
SPECIAL FEATURES
A) Physical
The state of Assam comprises three
physiographical divisions, namely, the Brahmaputra
Valley, the Barak Valley and the Karbi – Anglong and
the North-Cachar hills

B) Socio-cultural
Assam is the meeting ground of diverse cultures.
The people of the enchanting state of Assam are an
intermixture of various racial stocks such as
Mongoloid, Indo-Burmese, Indo-Iranian and Aryan.
