Reflections

The document discusses different types of reflections in geometry. It defines a reflection as a transformation that maps an object onto its mirror image using a mirror line. It then lists common types of mirror lines used for reflections, such as the x-axis, y-axis, lines of the form y=k and x=k, and the lines y=x and y=-x. It provides examples of how to perform reflections in these different lines. It also introduces the concept of representing reflections using transformation matrices and provides the matrices for reflections in the x-axis, y-axis, line y=x, and line y=-x. The document concludes by presenting some past exam questions involving reflections to work through.

REFLECTIONS
Reflections(M)

A reflection is a transformation that maps an object onto its mirror image using mirror
line
Mirror Lines

The following are mirror lines used to perform reflections

Reflection in a Mirror Line
Reflection in the Line x = k
Reflection in the Line y = k
Reflection in x-axis(y = 0)

For a reflection in the x-axis:

Reflection in y-axis(x = 0)

For a reflection in the y-axis:

Reflection in the line y = x

For a reflection in the line :

Reflection in the line y = -x

For a reflection in the line :

For reflections in the following mirror lines:
Reflection in x-axis(y = 0)

From the example above:

We know that for a reflection:

Reflection in y-axis(x = 0)

From the example above:

We know that for a reflection:

Reflection in the line y = x

From the example above:

We know that for a reflection:

Reflection in the line y = -x

From the example above:

We know that for a reflection:
