Abstract
In order to overcome the vital issues of vehicle congestion and time
consumption in traffic signals, a new method using Infra Red (IR) Sensor
technology is proposed. It can serve as a best solution to the manually
operated traffic signal. The object detection sensor deployed at the traffic
signal path measures the density of the vehicle in the road. Depending on the
density it provides the automatic signal timing accordingly. This makes the
existing system still easier. Due to long queues in traffic signal, it is not
comfortable to pass an ambulance immediately. Here a proposed system,
which overcomes this problem by using Radio Frequency (RF) Transmitter
and Receiver. The particular path signal will change to blue along with green
signal, indicating the ambulance arrival. Thus, it reduces time & saves the
lives of many people due to existing traffic system limitations and also stolen

vehicles can be easily detected with the help of Radio Frequency Identification
Objective
The primary objective of the Arduino-based Traffic Congestion
Control System is to enhance urban traffic management by implementing
an intelligent traffic signal control mechanism. This system aims to
alleviate congestion through the integration of automatic signal clearance
for emergency vehicles and the detection of stolen vehicles.

4
Introduction
 Automatic Congestion Control (ACC) allows the vehicle in the basis of
density based thus the signal timing changes automatically by using IR
sensor, which find the density of all path and provide the priority based
signal timing, when the red signal indication present in junction that
path will automatically closed. When the signal released to green light
then the path will be open.

 Ambulance Clearance System (ACS) is an automatic system based on

RF transmitter and RF receiver i.e. Radio frequency transmitter and
receiver where every ambulance will RF transmitter

5
Introduction(contd..)

 When the ambulance approaches a junction the driver must detect the
particular path switch, and then RF signal transmits the signal to
receiver which is placed in the junction. Then the ambulance can pass
smoothly.

 This system can effectively communicate, and then the particular

path signal turn on the green light that is the indication of ambulance.

 Stolen Vehicle Detection System (SVDS) is an automatic

collection system based on RFID i.e. Radio Frequency
Identification where every vehicle will have a tag (RFID) with a
unique tag identification number.
7
Introduction(contd..)
 This identification number will be associated with the comprehensive data
such as vehicle number, owner, etc. In addition to this, theft vehicles can
be sensed while crossing traffic junction by consuming the RFID, the
owner of the vehicle must warm about the theft to the RTO office. When
the theft vehicle marks the junction the warning is given to the control
room over SMS

8
Introduction(contd..)
 In the developing country like India growth of population adversely increases.
With the increase in population the traffic is rapidly increasing and so bundle
of problems too; these problems include traffic jams, accidents and traffic
violation at the heavy traffic signal.
 This in turn has an adverse effect on the economy of the country as well as
loss of lives. These all occurs because there were no separate lanes constructed
in India.
 The first traffic lights were introduced in London in 1868 and from then they
came into existence and now they were implemented with many existing
techniques in cites. So in order to avoid these problems here in this project we
have introduced an RFID based vehicular system.

 An RFID receiver and transmitter and being used to receive and transmit the
information from the emergency vehicles to the signal points. In case if your
vehicle is stolen then the RFID tag present in the vehicles are being matched
and if it is correctly matched then when it comes nearer to signal point a red
light blinks and so we can come to know that the vehicle is the stolen vehicle
and a message is being sent to the police station that the vehicle is at certain
signal point and also the persons who belongs to that vehicle. 11
