Physical activity and dance have many benefits. Dance is defined as a successive group of bodily movements and steps performed rhythmically and timed to music. It can be done for various reasons like releasing tension, worship, and treating medical conditions. There are many forms of dance including classical, modern/contemporary, folk, ethnic/tribal, national, recreational, creative, social/ballroom, and popular dance. Each dance form has its own characteristics and significance to culture.

DANCE FORMS
1. CLASSICAL DANCE

 Dances with standardized rules and restrictions. It can be


religious related dance or for court and royal entertainment.

Dances performed inside the sanctum of the temple according to


the rituals were called Agama Nartanam. Natya Shastra classifies this
type of dance form as margi, or the soul-liberating dance, unlike the
desi (purely entertaining) forms.

2. MODERN CONTEMPORARY BALLET

Contemporary ballet is a form of dance which incorporates


elements of both classical ballet and modern dance.

 It takes its technique and use of pointe work from classical


ballet.
 Many of its concepts come from the ideas and innovations of
20th century modern dance, including floorwork, balletic
movements and turn-in of the legs.
Classical Ballet

originated from Italy from the word ballo meaning to dance
