PRINCIPLES OF EXERCISE
TRAINING
What is Exercise Training

 This is a process of training or practice of a

person in a given task or activity to do it and
able to repeat it time after time.

 Proper execution of practices of activities are

at must.
What are the Principles?

Principle of Overload
Principle of Progression
Principle of Specificity
Principle of Individuality
Principle of Reversibility
Principle of Overload
 States that the body must work harder
than what it is used to in order for it
to adapt.
 A way to improve performance and

resist higher level of intensity of a

given work or activity.

Pain or exhaustion are signs of

effectiveness of an activity
Principle of Progression

 States
that body should
experience a gradual increase in
workload.

 It
involves process of execution
and recovery after an activity was
done.
Principle of Specificity
 Statesthat the body will adapt
specifically to the workload it
experienced.

 Meaning that a person must be

subjective to his/her field of activity.

(Example: A person trains for marathon

is not expected to lift heavy barbells)
Principle of Individuality

 States
that no two persons are the
same and their rate of adaptation to
the same workload differs.

 Allindividuals have different

performance goals, fitness attributes,
lifestyle, and nutritional preferences.
Principle of Reversibility
Reversibility: This principle
states that if you don’t maintain
a regular exercise program,
your state of physical fitness
will regress. In other words,
use it or lose it!
How do you
evaluate your
Fitness Level?

FITT Principle
Factors to be considered for your own
fitness program
What is FITT Principle?
 FITTstands for Frequency, Intensity,
Time, and Type. These are four criteria
to choose what kind of Exercise
program to build or done by a person.

 These criteria may varies according to

one’s needs or capability.
Frequency
This will allow a person to
determine how many times he/she will
perform an activity.
It varies to a person’s field whether
he/she is an athlete or a beginner. This
must be analyze by a person if the
frequency of his/her activity will fit on
his/her condition.
Intensity
This refers to the difficulty of an
activity if it is easy or hard to execute. It
is more important to set a workload
that is more challenging than what one
is used up
The factors that identical for
intensity are the duration and fitness
level.
Time or Duration
This refers on how long it will take
to finish a particular activity. The harder
the activity, the longer the time it will
take to finish it unless the person do it
in routine.
An exercise with high intensity
must be finish at only short period of
time.
Type of an Activity
This refers to a person to indicate
which activity will he/she choose. It will
depends on what component he/she
wants to develop.
This will be vary according to
fitness goal and current fitness level of
a person.

Summary
Exercise is a form of stress that
must be controlled, in excess will be
result of injury.
One must have sufficient
knowledge to manage his/her exercise
program, applying the Principles of
Training Exercise and FITT Principle to
successfully finish the tasks needed to
be executed properly.
Why do you think doing
this kind of exercise is
important?
