Data Types

Microsoft Access has 12 main data types that determine what type of data can be entered into each field. The data types include text, memo, number, currency, date/time, yes/no, hyperlink, lookup wizard, OLE object, attachment, and calculated. Each data type restricts what information can be stored, such as text only for text fields or dates for date/time fields, to help maintain data integrity and prevent invalid entries.

 Data types are used to correctly enter the


required data.

 Data types are a type of security not to


enter inappropriate data in a database.

 There are 12 data types and are defined as
