Illustrating Polynomial Function

The document discusses illustrating polynomial functions. It defines polynomials as expressions with variables, constants, and exponents. Polynomial functions are functions of the form P(x) = anxn + an-1xn-1 + ... + a1x1 + a0, where an is the leading coefficient, anxn is the leading term, a0 is the constant term, and n is the degree of the polynomial. The document classifies polynomial functions based on their degree and provides examples of zero, linear, quadratic, cubic, quartic, and quintic polynomial functions. It also includes a table to classify polynomial expressions by their standard form, degree, leading term, leading coefficient, and constant term.

Polynomial
The word polynomial is derived from Greek words “poly”
which means many and “nominal” which means terms,
so polynomial means many terms.
Polynomials are composed of constants (numbers),
variables (letters) and exponents such as 2 in . The
combination of numbers, variables and exponents is
called terms

Directions: Complete the table below. State your
reason if it is not a polynomial.
Expression Polynomial or Not Reason/s
1. P(x) = polynomial
2. not a polynomial Variable inside the radical sign.
3. P(x)= polynomial
4. f(x) = not a polynomial Has a fractional exponent.
5. y=
not a polynomial Denominator has a variable.
6. f(x) = polynomial
7. g(x) = not a polynomial Variable inside the radical sign.
8. polynomial
9. f(x) = not a polynomial Has a negative exponent.
10. y = polynomial
A polynomial function is a function of the form
P(x) = anxn + an-1xn-1+an-2xn-2+…+a1x1+a0
Wherein:

 an is the leading coefficient

 anxn is the leading term
 a0 is called the constant term of polynomial
 n is the degree of polynomial

P(x) = + - x + 15
Degree 3
Leading Term +
Leading Coefficient +10
Constant +15
There are various types of polynomial functions based
on the degree of the polynomial.
