Types of Computers

Types of computers include embedded computers designed for specific tasks, personal computers for individual use, mainframe computers for large organizations, and servers that provide resources to client computers over a network. Components include hardware like monitors, CPUs and storage, as well as software instructions that enable hardware to perform tasks. Operating systems manage computer resources by allocating them among programs, while user interfaces allow users to input and receive information. Utility software maintains computer functionality and application software performs specific functions.

Types of Computers

Explore the fascinating world of computers, from small embedded systems to

powerful mainframes and servers.
Embedded Computers
An embedded computer is a combination of hardware and software designed to
perform a specific task and incorporated into an electronic or mechanical system.
For example, computers are embedded into household appliances such as
washing machines, microwave ovens, video consoles and digital cameras.
Embedded computers are designed to withstand the specific environment that
they are being used in. For example, an embedded computer in a car would be
durable and able to cope with the heat of the engine.
Personal Computers
A personal computer is something that belongs to an individual person and is customized to one's requirement. The
desktop computer – consisting of a system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse was the first type of personalized computer.
Mainframe Computers
A mainframe computer, informally called a mainframe or big iron, is a computer used primarily by large organizations for
critical applications like bulk data processing for tasks such as censuses, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise
resource planning, and large-scale transaction processing.
Servers
A server is a computer or system that provides resources, data, services, or
programs to other computers, known as clients, over a network. In theory,
whenever computers share resources with client machines they are considered
servers.

3 Storage
memory refers to the location of short-term data, storage is the component of your computer
that allows you to store and access data on a long-term basis. Usually, storage comes in the
form of a solid-state drive or a hard drive.
Application Software
Application software is a type of computer program that performs a specific
personal, educational, and business function. Each application is designed to
assist end-users in accomplishing a variety of tasks, which may be related to
productivity, creativity, or communication.
Utility Software
Utility software includes all systems and programs on a computer system that
maintain its functionality. A computer's utility software includes components that
assist the operating system to optimize, maintain, organize and manage how it
functions in all situations.
Operating System and User
Interface
A user interface (UI) refers to the part of an operating system, program, or device
that allows a user to enter and receive information. A text-based user interface
(see the image to the left) displays text, and its commands are usually typed on a
command line using a keyboard. operating system (OS), program that manages a
computer's resources, especially the allocation of those resources among other
programs. Typical resources include the central processing unit (CPU), computer
memory, file storage, input/output (I/O) devices, and network connections.
