The Evolution of Construction

This document summarizes the evolution of construction from its earliest origins to modern times. The oldest recorded construction dates back 11,000 years to Gobekli Tepe in Turkey. Around 3500 BC, the Sumerians built the first structures out of sun-dried mud bricks and designed early temples. During the 7th century BC, Greek temples made an architectural impact with their harmony and alignment based on astrology. The largest structure of its time was the Great Pyramid of Giza built in 2560 BC in Egypt and it remains impressive for its perfect symmetry. Modern technologies and materials like steel and cement are now used in innovative ways to construct taller, stronger buildings.

THE EVOLUTION OF

CONSTRUCTION
Gabriela Anaid Ramírez Rosales.
English 4-B
The oldest construction
The first constructions were very simple, they were made
with sticks, stones, and vegetation.
The oldest recorded construction is in Turkey, Gobekli
Tepe, 11,000 years old. This was the world's first piece of
architecture and engineering.

2
3500 b.C.

The Summaries built the first buildings of sun-

dried mud bricks. They designed the first
temples.

3
700 b.C.
The Greek temples were built, which had an
architectural impact due to their harmony and
proportion and their curious location, aligned
astrologically.

4
2560 b.C.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was built in Egypt,

it was the largest structure built by man up to
that time. And its perfect symmetry is to this
day that continues to impress.
420 a.D.
The Middle Ages begin where there begin to be
changes in construction and its decrease, but it gives
way to the revolution from rustic constructions to
more reinforced elements. More durable and stronger
materials began to be used, such as stone, baked clay,
mortar, already treated wood, iron and steel, among
others.

6
1096-1600

Types of structures and designs such as Gothic

and Renaissance began to be implemented with
larger elements and taller structures.
1750
The modern era began, which marked the
industrialization of construction. It was in this
industrial revolution where construction with
steel and Portland cement began to be
implemented, elements that until now we use
and know as reinforced construction.

8
1889

The Eiffel Tower was built in Paris, an element

that marked the construction since it was the
tallest building of the time and was made only
of steel, which is why it was known as the iron
monster. By then, innovations had to be
implemented in construction, taking into
account wind conditions and the weight of the
structure.

9
Now

Modern technologies and elements are

currently implemented for construction. Both
steel and cement are used, but with different
technologies to provide higher quality. As are
additives or elements processed with different
materials to become more resistant.
