Recommend reading with reflection
Familiarise yourself with the strategic leadership and leading leaders
descriptors / profile from the leadership progression tool.
Understand the differences and the transition between these two levels:
• Read the leadership and leading leaders profile in the leadership
progression tool.
• Take time to explore the behaviours under each level as well as the
transition key focuses and ‘what to let go’ for each level.
• For each level to assess how regularly you demonstrate the behaviours
using the below ratings. Include evidence and personal reflections to
explain your ratings.
1. Never
2. Rarely
3. Sometimes
4. Often
• Discussing your reflection /assessment with your manager, asking them
for their feedback and reflections.
• Making a note of your discussions, including your strengths and
development areas for each of the levels as these will be considered
during your leadership challenge. 8
Buddy work
These are opportunities throughout the programme for you to
meet semi-informally with your peers to share and discuss
issues, ideas and challenges.
We would like you to arrange to meet with your assigned buddy
to share how you are feeling about SLHPP Evolve and what it
means to you to be part of the programme.
To help you with this we have provided some suggested
questions to explore together. You may have other questions or
areas you would like to discuss and we encourage you to take the
conversation where it is of most value to you both.
Suggested questions for your first buddy meeting:
Take some time to introduce yourselves to each other and share:
• Your journey to being recommended for the Strategic
Leadership High Potentials Programme
• What you hope to get out of the programme
• What concerns or anxieties you have about the programme
• What support you would like from your peers on the
programme
Self directed peer
learning groups
These are opportunities throughout the
programme for you to meet with a group of your
peers to share and discuss issues, ideas and
challenges.
You will receive an email listing your peer learning
group members. You will then need to arrange to
meet up to discuss how you will work together for
effectively on the strategic project.
A brief for the discussion will be provided with the
email with some explanatory questions and
exercises, to help you explore how you can work
as a cross-organisational, global, strategic project
team.
On-line
Workshop One
In preparation for the workshop
Review your DISC profile and your reflections
from the leadership progression toolkit exercise.
In order to get the most out of the workshop:

• Find a quiet space to work from where you

cannot be overheard or disturbed
• Inform others that you won’t be available during
the workshop and should not be interrupted
• Check your audio and video connections before
you join and use headphones to improve the
audio quality (if necessary)
• Turn off email or any other messaging
notifications, and close all other application
widows for the duration of the workshop
This is the first in a series of workshops designed to stimulate
your thinking and challenge your performance during the
Workshop Strategic Leadership High Potentials Programme: Evolve.

one During the workshop you will:

• Explore how you work with others in teams and receive
feedback from peers.
• Review the DISC indicators and your own leadership strengths
in more depth
• Get to know your colleagues and identify how you can
support each other through the programme
Invites will be sent for these – you only need to attend one.
Self Reflection – learning journals
We encourage you to start a learning journal – this is a
record of your experiences and learning and serves as
a reminder of your progress during the programme.
It is a place to reflect on your behaviour, observations
and experiences, and consider how you will behave
differently in future. It also provides a record of your
thoughts, and therefore allows you to track your
progress.
A learning journal is very personal. It is for your
benefit, so it is entirely up to you to decide how you
want to keep it, how often you write, and what you
want to include
