• Definition-
• A Package is a wrapper or a container in which a product is
enclosed or sealed.
• Acc to William J Stanton” Packaging may be defined as the
general group of activity in product planning which involve
designing and producing the container or wrapper for a product.
• Packaging is also known as silent salesmen in marketing activities.
• It helps in safe handling of goods and protects it from spoilage,
leakage and pilferage.

Labeling

• Acc to William J Stanton” The Label is that part of


a product which carries verbal information about
the product or the seller. A label may be a part of
the package or it may be a tag attached directly
to the product”
Information Provided by Labeling
• Brand name
• Name and address of the manufacturer
• Weight, measure, count etc
• Ingredients by Percentage
• Necessary directions for the use of the product
• Warning
• Date of packaging and expiry
• Maximum Retail Price
• Nutritional Guidelines.
Types of Label
• Brand Label – It is a brand alone applied to the product
on package. It is known As brand label.
For eg Pen, stationary where brand name is mentioned.
• Grade label- It Identifies the quality with the letter
number etc. Grade label may be like a, b or c or it can
be stars rating eg Samsung fridge
• Descriptive label- It gives detailed information about
the product , its ingredients, its features , its price,
Instructions for the use, manufacturers name etc.
