Furnace cover section assembly in top of the furnace and it is assembly of 13


section and each section water was inlet and outlet from same section. For
cooling purpose water is circulating 100-120LPM in each section.
2. Furnace electrode cover seal section (Filler section)

Furnace electrode cover seal is assembled on furnace cover section.it is


installed in each electrode system. This assembly is divided into 04 filler section
segments,upper part and stuffing box. Here water circuit is assembled in 04
parts.For cooling purpose water is circulating 70-90LPM in each section.

In each electrode assembly of 08 no Contact clamp segments,08 no Pressure ring
segments & 08 no cooling shield segments.

For Contact clamp 01 no water circuit is divided for 02 segments. Here for each
electrode, we have 04 circuits for 08 segments from water manifold. It is
nomenclated with X01L,X02L,Y01R,Y02R.(eg:- 101L,102L,201R,202R)

For Pressure ring 01 no water circuit is divided for 02 segments. Here for each
electrode, we have 04 circuits for 08 segments from water manifold. It is
nomenclated with X05,X06,X07,X08.(eg:- 105,106,107,108)

For Cooling shield 01no water circuit is divided for 04 segments. Here for each
electrode, we have 02 circuits for 08 segments from water manifold. It is
nomenclated with X03,X04 (eg:- 103,104).

Issues & planning
1. From Furnace pump house to Furnace building, cooling water header pipeline
is laid under the ground. Identification of leakage & rectification is difficult. So, it
is to be planned for re-routing the pipeline, preferably during Furnace Cover
replacement .
2. In furnace floor, inlet & outlet header pipelines of water manifold & emergency
tank were installed from plant starting and it was never replaced. Header pipelines
are corroded in some areas and hence to be planned for replacement.
3.Auxiliary cooling tower equipment & wooden structure are damaged.
Planned for replacement in FY2023-24.
4. Sealing of all Split Casing Pumps to be changed from Gland Packing type to
Mechanical Seal type, to be prevent leakages.
5. Plan to change GRP 2/2 pump from Imported (ABB STALL( JMW Z-12-125)) to
Indigenous Grundfos(CR 95-5) , to maintain spares availability.
