Plant Hormones
2

Chemical that regulate plant growth

Signal molecules produced within the plant, and

occur in extremely low concentration.

Chemical messengers that affect a plants ability to

respond to its enviornment
General Plant Hormones
3

There are some plant hormones which are described

below:
Auxins
Gibberllins
Cytokinins
Ethylene
Abscisc acid
Classifications
4
Auxins
5

First of the major plant hormones to be discovered.

Indole-3-acetic acid(IAA) is the most common,

naturally-occurring, plant hormone of the auxin
class.

Frits Went (1926) determined auxin enhanced cell

elongation and stem elongation.
Functions Of Auxins
6
Auxins also influenecs
root formations.

Retards leaf abscission.

Promotes fruit growth.

Responsible for apical

dominance and
phototropism.
Cytokinins
7

Produced in primarily root tips.

Cytokinins have some known actions in the process of :

• Cell division

• Tissue culture

• Delay leaf senescence

Cytokinin dealays leaf senescence
8
Genetic modification to
increaser cytokinin
biosynthesis
Gibberellin
9

Produce in young, developing shoots and seeds.

Gibberellin have some known actions in development

of:
• Cell division
• Cell elongation
• Stimulate seed germinatin
• Stimulate fruit development
• Stimulate flowering
Gibberellin
10
Ethylene
11

Produced in most tissues under stress, senescence,

or ripening
Ethylene have some known actions in the development
of :
• Fruit ripening

• Leaf and flower senescence

• Leaf and fruit abscission(controlled separation of

plant part from the main body)
Ethylene

Abscisic Acid
13

Abscisic acid produce in:

Mature leaves, especially under stress

Abscisic acid have some known actions that is:

• Stress response
• Stimulate stomatal closure
• Inhibit premature germination of seeds
• Seed dormancy maintenance
