Session 2

This document provides instructions for setting up a Tekla Structures workspace and modeling different steel components. It discusses how to define the work area units and views, and create basic steel elements like columns, beams, polybeams, curved beams, and twin profiles. It also covers more advanced elements like bracings, plates, purlins, and contour plates, describing how to set their properties and shape them by picking points in the model. The overall purpose is to familiarize users with Tekla Structures and teach the process of modeling structural steel.

TEKLA

STRUCTURES
SESSION 2

•Work area
•Steel Modeling
•Beam
• Column
• Poly Beam
• Curved Beam
•Contour plate
Set up the workspace

• Before starting to model, check that your Tekla Structures workspace is set up
correctly.
1. Define the units and decimals you will use.

2. Modify the grid to suit your needs.

3. Create some views

4. Resize the work area to suit your project.

5. Get familiar with the coordinate system. If you are modeling sloped
structures, shift the work plane accordingly.

2
Steel modeling
Coloumn
• Create a steel column

• On the Steel tab, click Column .

3
Beam
On the Steel tab, click
Beam>Modify properties by
double clicking it

4
POLYBEAM
•On the Steel tab, click Beam > Polybeam.
• Pick the points you want the beam to go
through.

• Tekla Structures creates the polybeam

between the points you picked, using the Steel
beam properties in the property pane.

5
CURVED BEAM
•Poly beam is a structural element that can be drawn continously by joining endpoints.

•In polybeam at end corners ,champhers and fills can be created.

•Ribbon menu- Modelling > create steel part > steel polybeam

•Toolbar – Seel polybeam

6
TO CREATE TWIN PROFILE

•Create a twin profile

On the Steel tab, click Beam > Twin profile -Pick two points.

Tekla Structures creates the twin profile between the points you picked, using the Twin
profile properties in the property pane.

7
Bracings in Tekla Structures
•Bracing is important in earthquake resistance buildings because it helps to keep
structure standing

•To create steel bracing

Steel tab >steel beam>load attribute>H brace or V brace

8
PLATES IN TEKLA
STRUCTURES

9
Creating purlins in tekla
structures
•Purlin refers to roof framing members that span parallel to building eeve and support
roof the roof decking

•Selection order
Pick the start point of the purlins.

•Select the parts that divide up the purlins.

•To create steel purlin

Steel tab >steel beam>load attribute >purlins

10
Creating Contour plate in Tekla
Structures
•Contour plate creates the plate with thickness of the plate and define the shape
by picking the points.

•To create steel part

-Ribbon menu>Modelling>create steel part>Contour plate

-Toolbar>Contour plate
