SYMBOLS INTRODUCTION Document formatting refers to the way a document is laid out on the page—the way it looks and is visually organized—and it addresses things like font selection, font size and presentation (like bold or italics), spacing, margins, alignment, columns, indentation, and lists. Basically, the mechanics of how the words appear on the page. A well formatting document is consistent, correct (in terms of meeting any stated requirements), and easy to read. 01 COMMON TEXT FORMATTING
● Bold, italics, and underline are common
text-formatting features. The “Bold” feature thickens the text's individual characters, like this. The italics feature tilts the characters of text slightly to the right, like this. The underline feature inserts a line under the text, like this. ● We can also change fonts of text just need to select font from the font style menu. Also we can change font size and font colour by selecting the colour you want. APPLYING SCRIPT AND TEXT CASE
For superscript, press Ctrl, Shift, and the Plus
sign (+) at the same time. For subscript, press Ctrl and the Equal sign (=) at the same time. To use a keyboard shortcut to change between lowercase, UPPERCASE, and Capitalize Each Word, select the text and press SHIFT + F3 until the case you want is applied. 02 INDENTING PARAGRAPH AND ALIGNING TEXT ● Indentation, the much-maligned formatting technique, provides readers with a sense of continuity. Indentations signal to the reader that she is about to dive into another topic or start a new section of a novel. There is two types increase indent and decrease indent. ● Alignment is how text flows in relation to the rest of the page (or column, table cell, text box, etc.). There are four main alignments: left, right, centre, and justified. Left-aligned text is text that is aligned with a left edge. Right-aligned text is text that is aligned with a right edge. ADDING BORDERS AND BACKGROUND You can use paragraph borders to emphasize important text or to add visual interest to your document. ● Select a word, line, or paragraph. ● On the Home tab, click the arrow next to the Borders button. ● In the Borders gallery, click the border style that you want to apply. A neutral background will easily keep the subject as the main focus of the portrait, but detailed backgrounds can help to tell a story. 1. Select the word or paragraph that you want to apply shading to. 2. On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click the arrow next to Shading. 3. Under Theme Colours, click the colour that you want to use to shade your selection. 03 PAGE SIZE AND MARGINS Change the paper size for a specific page 1. Select the text on the pages that you want to change. 2. On the Format menu, click Document. 3. Click Page Setup. 4. On the Paper Size pop-up menu, select a paper size. 5. Click OK. 6. On the Apply to pop-up menu, click Selected text, and then click OK. Change default margins ● Select Layout > Margins > Custom Margins. ● Set your margins. ● Select Set As Default. ● Confirm your selection. INSERTING PAGE BREAK AND PAGE BORDER Page breaks are used to end a page without filling it with text. ● Click or tap in the document where you want a page break. ● Go to Insert > Page Break.
A page border is a design tool used to create a
frame outside the margins of each document page by using a template from a word processor to create border art on a blank canvas consisting of clipart images or icons. ● Under Setting on the left, choose the border style you want. If you want to remove a border, select None. ● Under Style, select the line style you want. ● Select the arrow under Colour and choose a border colour. ● Select the arrow under Width and choose the width you want. 04 INSERTING IMAGES
Adding clip art and pictures to your document
can be a great way to illustrate important information or add decorative accents to existing text. You can insert images from your computer or search Microsoft's extensive selection of clip art to find the image you need. Steps to insert image are: ● On the Insert tab, ● click Picture, ● browse to, ● and select the picture you want, ● click Open. 05 INSERTING SHAPES
A SHAPE field is the Drawing Canvas and is
similar to a placeholder, which is automatically created for any drawn picture. Drawn pictures (also called vector drawings) are created from lines, curves, rectangles, and other objects. AutoShapes are drawn pictures. Steps to draw shapes: ● Click insert, ● click Shapes, ● select a shape, ● and then click and drag to draw the shape. 06 INSERTING SYMBOLS
Microsoft Word has a special features called
symbols in which user can insert many different types of symbols in the document. MS Word has a variety of symbols, special characters, fractions, languages, etc. We can insert the symbols and special characters with the help of the Symbol dialog box present in MS Word.
● Go to Insert > Symbol > More Symbols.
● Go to Special Characters. ● Double-click the character that you want to insert.
