What is the meaning of software?
Computer software, or simply software, is a
collection of data or computer instructions that tell
the computer how to work. This is in contrast to
physical hardware, from which the system is built
and actually performs the work. Computer hardware
and software require each other and neither can be
realistically used on its own.
Types of Software
There are two types of software system software and application software.

● System Software is used to control the operations and also controls


a computer’s internal functioning and hardware devices.

● Application Software is designed to solve a specific problem or to


do a specific task Because a software that performs special functions or
provides function which are much more than basic operation of the
computer are application software.

designed for running the computer hardware parts and the
application programs. It is the platform provided to the
computer system where other computer programs can
execute. The system software act as a middle layer
between the user applications and hardware. The
operating system is the type of system software. The
operating system is used to manage all other programs
installed on the computer

A software that performs a single task and


nothing else is called application
software. Application software are very
specialized in their function and approach
to solving a problem. So a spreadsheet
software can only do operations with
numbers and nothing else.

Programming tools are also software in the form of
programs or applications that software developers (also
known as programmers, coders, hackers or software
engineers) use to create, debug, maintain (i.e. improve or
fix), or otherwise support software.

developers and other experts who maintain software. While
hardware is extremely important, the software of a system is
designed to execute commands and provide users with
output. Without software, it is virtually impossible to use
your system.
