Dcs Displays

This presentation covers the different types of displays used in a Distributed Control System (DCS). It discusses standard displays like group, overview, and detail displays. It also discusses trend displays that show process variable trends over time and graphic displays that use pictures and graphics to represent portions of a process.

GUIDED BY: TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
DR. GIRISH PARMAR
THIS PRESENTATION COVERS:

• Introduction to DCS Displays

• Standard Displays
a. Group Display
b. Overview Display
c. Detail Display
• Trend Display
• Graphic Display
INTRODUCTION
• DCS (Distributed Control System)- DCS is a dynamic control system, in which
controllers are distributed throughout the entire system and are connected by a
network
INTRODUCTION TO DCS DISPLAYS

• Displays which shows an overview of the overall operating

situation of the plant.
• These displays shall incorporate status, alarms and data.
• Displays that allows the operator to control the plant.
• Operational reports on plant performance, maintenance activities
and operational planning.
TYPES OF DCS DISPLAY
The Output Of Process Is Being Shown At Different Types Of
Display:
• Standard Display
• Group Display
• Overview Display
• Detail Display
• Trend Display
• Graphics Display
STANDARD DISPLAY

• These displays are based on the researches or experiences of plant

operators.
• They are predefined form of alarms points of control loops and
controller groups of plant area etc.
• It consist of symbolic and alphanumeric information structured in
standard formats.
TYPES OF STANDARD
DISPLAYS
•Group Display
•Overview Display
•Detail Display
GROUP DISPLAY
• The group display shows the operating parameters of group of
control loops such as 4, 8, 12 or 16 control loops are arranged in a
row so that they look like the faces of instruments on an
instrument panel.
• Each control loop is represented by a rectangle with bar graphs to
indicate the values of the process variable and the output signal.
• Operator can select a loop, mode or set point.
• This display enables us to associate alarm priority and sequential
operation arrangements.
GROUP DISPLAY
OVERVIEW DISPLAY

• The overview display shows the bar essentials of a number of

groups, each group in a separate rectangle.
• The set point is shown as a straight line reference.
• Deviation of process variable from set point appears as a vertical
bar.
• Digital conditions can also be displayed on an overview display.
OVERVIEW DISPLAY
DETAIL DISPLAY

• The detail display is specific to a single loop or control

function.
• More than a group display, it includes additional
information defining constants, limits, and other
characteristics of the function.
• The sources of the signals coming to it are listed on the
screen.

•Graphic Display
TREND DISPLAY

• Trend displays are the DCS equivalents of chart records.

• They are a profile of values of a process variable showing changes
that have taken place over a period of time.
• The trend display information is valuable to the operator to
observe the recent pattern of operating history.

GRAPHIC DISPLAY

• Graphic display capability allows a picture to be drawn on the

screen so that the operator can look at a portion of the process
more realistically than by watching a row of bar graph.
• Process and control information is included in the picture.
• It can be interactive, dynamically changes as real-time
information changes.
• Some graphic displays are also capable of showing movements.
