Research

The document discusses scientific educational research and trends in science education research. It provides definitions of scientific educational research and lists recent trends in science education research from 2019-2023 such as blended learning, project based learning, and gamification. The document also includes sample questions and responses about educational issues and proposed research study titles. It rationalizes why recent trends in science education research have focused on these areas, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic requiring alternative learning models.

QUESTION QUESTION
3. Read the abstract below and identify 4. Let’s think a study title for some of these
what is the research gap being addressed. educational concerns:
1. What is scientific
educational research?

01
• Under NCLB ((National Science and
Development Board), scientifically based research
means research that involves the application of
rigorous, systematic and objective procedures to
obtain reliable and valid knowledge relevant
regarding educational methods.
• To produce research that has meaningful outcomes
and the ability to improve the teaching and learning
of science, NSTA advocates that research and
practice be linked and support compatible goals
2. Give a real-life class situation which
you think is an existing problem in the
field of education. How do you think
this problem be addressed with the
use of research/ research process?
o Deteriorating quality of education. Studies and fact-finding commissions have
revealed that, poor quality of teaching, poor management of schools, poor lab
and library facilities,, inadequate books and science equipment, the poor
method of instruction, a lack of resources, and other factors are to blame for
the declining quality of education. This problem is a wicked problem, a
problem that has many solutions but will ultimately take a while to be solved
(Rittel 1973).
o With the use of research, it has permitted substantial progress in curriculum
development and reform, and to meet the requirements of individual learners.
2. Give a real-life class situation which
you think is an existing problem in the
field of education. How do you think
this problem be addressed with the
use of research/ research process?
o to improve classroom learning and add support
o improve the teaching experience
o act as reinforcement
o the use of manipulative and ICT tools create authentic connections that
fosters creativity, collaboration, and meaningful learning.
o meet the needs of the students and cater to their learning styles or
preference
o using different resources can produce flexibility with the teaching
strategies and activities employed
3. Read the abstract below and identify
what is the research gap being addressed.
ANSWER: RESEARCH GAP

The research gap being addressed in the abstract is the difficulty of

accessing practical chemistry activities during the Covid-19 pandemic
lockdown due to the cessation of academic activities and the limitations
of online teaching methodologies. The researchers aim to facilitate
learning by creating a ‘Virtual Chemistry Lab Space’ using open
educational resources and administering it to learners enrolled in an
introductory undergraduate practical chemistry course. The feedback
collected from the learners is analyzed to determine their familiarity,
interest, and usefulness of the VCLS, as well as the prevalent problems
and overall opinions on the resource.
4. Let’s think a study title

educational concerns:

his faculty during this online distance learning modality

4.2. A tenth- grade biology teacher wonders if discussions are more effective
than lectures in motivating students to learn biology concept.
COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DISCUSSIONS AND LECTURES TEACHING
TECHNIQUE IN MOTIVATING STUDENTS ON LEARNING BIOLOGY CONCEPT

4.3.A laboratory instructor would like to find out the perception of student in
doing a home-based experiment as hands-on activities for chemistry concept.
DIFFERENTIATION OF PERSUASIVENESS OF HOME-BASED EXPERIMENT AND
HANDS ON ACTIVITIES ON STUDENT FOR CHEMISTRY CONCEPT.
5. List down 3 recent trends in
science education research since
2019-2023. Rationalize why the
trend is leaning to these
area/concern.

PROJECT
BLENDED BASED
LEARNING GAMIFICATIO
LEARNING N
BLENDED LEARNING :

• Since the growth of technology, blended learning is never

out of the popular educational trends list. With this
method, you can make use of both face-to-face and
eLearning training methods. Thanks to that, learners
become the center of learning. Meanwhile, teachers play
the role of mentors to orient learners. This modern trend
not only boosts learners’ learning experiences but also
wakes their learning motivation up.
PROJECT BASED LEARNING :

• This is also known as experiential learning.

“Knowledge is a consequence of experience”.
People cannot grow up if they just follow the
grasp in textbooks, indeed. Global citizens have
to experience real things in real life. Thanks to
that process, they sharpen their skills better in
integrating with society.
GAMIFICATION :

• Basically, gamification refers to applying the

mechanics and theory of games to non-game
contexts. When combining gamification in
teaching and learning, learners will be inspired
and motivated to complete their tasks. This is not
a new educational trend. But it always gets a
spotlight in education.
RATIONAL
E
In the amidst of the global proposal pandemic online learning is propose as an
alternative learning for the students to able for them cope up with the global crisis. As
for “blended learning” after the grim battle with COVID-19 as proffered by the (IATF)
full face to face classes where still prohibited therefore blended learning is envisioned as
a recourse. For (PBL) or “Project Based Learning” this is where the students are guided
unto a path with the freedom of choice to create their own objectives, questions,
realization and results that can practice and form their critical thinking skill,
communication learning skill, and as well as collaboration skills as for DEPED proposed
the “student-centered Learning” Educational decree (1863) RA9155 emendation that all
learner must practice this Learning strategy. Lastly Gamification applying behavioral
economics and mechanics as a game example to deepen their understanding unto the
topic and to practice interaction and collaboration amongst the students to satisfy their
hunger for knowledge and as well as to make school fun for them.
