INTRODUCTION:

Orange Line is an automated rapid transit line in Lahore,


Punjab, Pakistan and the first driverless train in Pakistan. It
is operated by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority and forms
part of the Lahore Metro system.
• The Orange Line spans an impressive 27.1 kilometers,
connecting various parts of the city with 26 stations
• Initiated in 2014 as part of the China-Pakistan Economic
Corridor (CPEC), the project saw the light of day in
October 2020
• Its a driverless wonder operating at an average speed of
80 km/h with an expected daily ridership of 250,000
passengers

TIMELINE:

The journey of the Orange Line Metro Train project began in May 2014 when a
memorandum of understanding was signed between the governments of Pakistan
and China.
 The project continued to progress, and by October 2016, Phase 2 was awarded
to ZKB Engineers and Constructors for civil works between Chauburji and Ali
Town.
 Project continued to move forward, in May 2017, CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive
rolled out the first of 27 trains for the metro.
 Testing and trial runs began in March 2018.
 Orange Line Train was inaugurated in October 2020 by then Chief Minister
Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar.
TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

 Route length is 27.1km long


 27 train sets
 26 stations along its route
 Operates on standard gauge track of width 1435mm
 Each train has a capacity of 1000 passengers
 Maximum speed is 80km/h
 Operates on 25kV overhead electrification system
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION:

Pakistan, runs from the southern terminal
at Dera Gujran to the northern terminal at
Ali Town. It serves various densely
populated areas, connecting key
locations in Lahore. The route includes
elevated and underground sections,
providing a significant transportation
solution for the city's residents.
COSTING AND FUNDING:

 Financing was secured in December 2015 when China’s Exim


Bank agreed to provide a soft loan of $1.55 billion for the project.
 The federal government of Pakistan agreed to contribute $300
million to the project.
 Habib Construction Services was awarded the first phase in
October 2015 for Rs. 21.49 billion (US$74 million).
 95% of the financing for the project was through debt.
 Total cost of the orange line metro train project was approximately
USD 1.6 billion.
BENEFITS:

 On 25 October 2020, Orange Line Train was inaugurated


 It will provide employment to more than 4,000 people.
 Daily commuters estimated at around 250,000 travelled through
this project
 Government has fixed a one-way fare of Rs40 per passenger for
an initial six-month period.
 All stations completed and handed over to CR-NORINCO.
