Organize a composition using photographic processes. Utilize art elements, design principles, and technical processes in the construction of a functional object.
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will collaborate to create effective cyanotypes based upon the principles of composition and design.
Unit Concepts
Apply relief printmaking processes to develop an effective composition that utilizes personal imagery from sketchbooks based on cultural exemplars.
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will use Day of the Dead as inspiration for creating large scale collaborative drawings suitable for printmaking.

Students will transfer their image to the block (plywood). We will also take part in a tour of the facility and gallery walk of the collection art Pyramid Atlantic.
Homework: The bus leaves Howard at 8:30am, next class, November 19.
Studio Problem/Approaches Students will learn how to carve wood relief. Students will carve their group image in large plywood sheets. Homework: The bus leaves Howard at 8:30am, next class, December 3.

-Students will take part in a steam roller extravaganza printing their final collaborative works.

Students will create drawings from the direct observation of a model that expresses gesture, accurate proportion, and foreshortening.
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will observe the way different direct lighting scenarios affect the form of the human head/face. Students will then draw at least 3 self portraits using these light sources.
Homework: Finish drawings if not completed, you will need them finished for our next class.

Apply intaglio printmaking processes to develop an effective composition that demonstrates meaning or mood based upon a selfportrait from observation.
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will use intaglio printmaking methods to effectively transfer a self-portrait to a plate and print multiple editions.
Homework: Bring in a sample painting (in color) that youve completed outside of school.

Color Theory Media Application: Acrylic and Oil Paint Painting from Observation
Studio Problem/Approaches
Students will learn how to mix color using paint, oil paint application techniques and discuss color theory. We will complete a practice painting of a still life arrangement.

Students will be able to use color mixing and brush techniques to create a still life painting that elevates ordinary everyday objects to extraordinary.

Students will learn about the field of medical illustration as a springboard for their own drawings based on various slides as observed through a microscope.

Students will learn a variety of abstraction methods to apply to observed structures and choose a color scheme to create a cohesive series of microscopic images.
Homework: Bring back ANY assignment you may have at home that weve
