WHAT IS INTERNET
• The internet is a network of computers linking many different types of computers all over the world . It is a very large
wide area network connectivity computers and networks around the world . It makes it possible for millions of users to
connect to one another via. Telephone lines, cable transmission satellites.
• The internet or net(network of networks ) is the largest computer network in the world that connects billions of
computer. The word internet comes from combination between interconnection and network. Network is a collection of
computers and devices connected via. Communication channels and transmission media allow to share resources
(hardware , software, data, information). The vast collection of computer networks which form and act as a single huge
networks for transport of data and messages across distances which can be anywhere from the same office to anywhere
in the world .
• The internet is the foremost important tool and the prominent resource that is being used by almost every person across
the globe . It connects millions of computer, websites and servers. Using the internet we can send emails , photos ,
videos , messages to our loved ones The internet is a widespread interconnected network of computers and electronic
devices (that support internet) It creates a communication medium to share and get information online .If your device is
connected to the internet then only you will be able to access all the applications websites ,social media apps and many
more services .
• The internet nowadays is considered the fastest medium for sending information.
HOW DID THE INTERNET
DEVELOPED
• Internet was born in late 1960’s. The internet has its root in the ARPANET system of the Advanced
Research Project Agency of U.S. Department of Defence which linked together mainframe computers to
form a communication networks .ARPANET is known as the forefather of internet.
• ARPANET delivered it’s first message on October 29,1969,from one computer located at the University of
California Los Angeles to another at Stanford. Each computer was the size of a small house and the simple
message LOGIN crashed the network . Stanford only received the first two letters , according to History.
Com . Technology advanced into the 1970s with the work of two scientists , Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf
who developed a Communications model standardizing how data was transmitted in multiple networks.
ARPANET adopted this on Jan .1, 1983, and the modern internet was born.
• Computers in the 60’s were large and immobile and in order to make use of information stored in any one
computer or have magnetic computer tapes sent through the conventional postal system. The Soviet
union ‘s launch of the Sputnik satellite spurred the U.S. Defence department to consider ways information
could still be disseminated even after nuclear attack. UNIVAC I was delivered to the census bureau in
1951. The first UNIVAC for business applications was installed at the General Electric Appliance Division,
to do payroll , in 1957 Remington Rand ( which had purchased the Eckert computer corporation in 1950)
had sold forty – six machines. It was the first American commercial computer, as well as the first computer
designed for business use. The first few sales were to government agencies the A.C. Nielsen company and
the prudential Insurance company.
