Tools and Equipment
Needed in Preparing Salads
Prepared by: Ma. Christina E. Antopina Lemon Juicer/presser- is a small kitchen utensil designed to extract juice from lemons or other citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, or lime. It is designed to separate and crush the pulp of the fruit in a way that is easy to operate Garlic press-also known as a garlic crusher, is a kitchen utensil to crush garlic cloves efficiently by forcing them through a grid of small holes, usually with some type of piston. Peeler set- is a kitchen tool consisting of a metal blade with a slot with a sharp edge attached to a handle, used to remove the outer layer of some vegetables such as potatoes, broccoli stalks, and carrots, and fruits such as apples and pears. A paring knife may also be used to peel vegetables Grill pan-can refer to several types of items: A frying pan with a series of parallel ridges used for cooking food with radiant heat on a stovetop, or with a metal grid in it. This is referred to as a "griddle pan" in the UK and Ireland Salad tongs-Serving utensils that are typically joined together to form a left and right gripping mechanism to allow salad greens to be easily grasped, removed from a salad bowl and placed on a plate. Salad tongs are made in a variety of materials such as plastic, nylon, steel, aluminum, and wood. Salad Spinner-A salad spinner, also known as a salad tosser, is a kitchen tool used to wash and remove excess water from salad greens. It uses centrifugal force to separate the water from the leaves, enabling salad dressing to stick to the leaves without dilution Salad bowl-is a round dish or container typically used to prepare and serve food. The interior of a bowl is characteristically shaped like a spherical cap, with the edges and the bottom forming a seamless curve. Citrus Zester-A zester is a kitchen utensil for obtaining zest from lemons and other citrus fruit. A kitchen zester is approximately four inches long, with a handle and a curved metal end, the top of which is perforated with a row of round holes with sharpened rims Salad knife-Made from a hard nylon plastic, this type of utensil is designed to be used for cutting fresh vegetables such as salad greens. The purpose of the salad knife is to provide a cutting material that will not turn the fresh ingredients brown once they have been cut Chopper-A utensil that is typically a self- contained unit to hold food while a spring- loaded mechanism with blades chops the food beneath. Most often round in shape, a food chopper will have a handle, which works as a plunger connected to a set of evenly spaced metal chopping blades. Measuring spoons-is a spoon used to measure an amount of an ingredient, either liquid or dry, when cooking. Measuring spoons may be made of plastic, metal, and other materials. They are available in many sizes, including the teaspoon and tablespoon. Pans and pots-Cookware and bakeware are types of food preparation containers, commonly found in a kitchen. Cookware comprises cooking vessels, such as saucepans and frying pans, intended for use on a stove or range cooktop. Bakeware comprises cooking vessels intended for use inside an oven. Mixing spoons-makes it easier to cook and prepare meals. Whether you need a tool to combine ingredients for cooking or baking, or need something to scrape the bottom of the sauce pan with after you prepare dinner, a mixing spoon (or cooking spoon) is an essential tool in every kitchen. Kitchen towels-are generally tougher than your average bath towel, for instance. They are capable of absorbing, but they are also used to wipe up spills, clean off cutting boards, dry dishes, dry hands, and even hold hold hot plates and dishes. Refrigerator- (colloquially fridge) consists of a thermally insulated compartment and a heat pump (mechanical, electronic or chemical) that transfers heat from its inside to its external environment so that its inside is cooled to a temperature below the room temperature.
