Instructions: Read and identify the
verb in the following sentences.

What is a verb?
Verbs

- are words that show an action or


state of being . Almost every
sentence requires a verb.
Ex. 1. Maria dances gracefully.

(dances – is a verb; telling what


Maria is doing)

What is a verb?
Adjectives
An adjective is a word that modifies
or describes a noun or pronoun.

Adjectives can be used to describe


the qualities of someone or
something independently or in
comparison to something else.
Adjectives

An adjective modifies a noun; that is,


it provides more detail about a noun.
This can be anything from color to size to
temperature to personality. Adjectives
usually occur just before the nouns they
modify.
Example sentences
Example sentence:

1.They live in a beautiful house.


Example sentence:

1.They live in a beautiful house.

adverbs?
Ex. Maria dances gracefully.

(gracefully – is an adverb modifying the


verb dances; it also explains how Maria dances)
Many adverbs end in -ly, but
many do not. Generally, if a
word can have -ly added to its
adjective form, place it there to
form an adverb.
• The ship was an English
EXAMPLES: vessel. (what kind)

• This factory is mine.

• Many people enjoy the
annual dinner. (how
