Presentation Question Bank System

This document outlines the development of a web-based question bank management information system. The system aims to improve exam management by allowing schools to create an online question bank database containing exam questions, previous exams, model answers, and course reviews. It also enables students to take practice exams and quizzes online. The system was developed using the waterfall model and includes features like user registration, question uploading, exam scheduling, and result viewing. While successful in meeting most user objectives, it is recommended that the system be expanded to incorporate more subjects and exam types in the future.

AWEB-BASED QUESTION BANK

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

PRESENTED

Introduction
• Computerized and online systems have been increasing in every aspect of
education. Information Technology plays a very important role in nowadays
education. Computers and internet have made dramatic changes in the
education system. Information technology enables institution to save time and
money, and allow the delivery of education with easiness, anywhere, and
anytime.
• Paper based books are replaced by online and off-line applications. With
computer software, we can be able to have access to huge databases of
information.
• This gives fundamental change to the education. Information technology makes
the exchanges of information fast and easily.
Introduction Cont’d
• In this research project we have introduced the web-based questions-bank
system, which can be used with any school and may save hours in exams
preparation and assessment, as well as may save resources like, photocopying
and distributing the exams papers.
Statement of Problem
• These days, there has been significant increasing students’ population in many
institutions and colleges. As the number of students’ grow, the task of
administering assessment in Outcome-based education such as developing
items for suitable Learning Outcome, maintaining and conducting tests, quiz
and examinations has become tedious and laborious.
• Furthermore, the administrative processes of assessment and evaluation can
become a nightmare for some institutions. It needs lot of time, costs and
resources to set and assess the examination papers especially if the class
strength is greater. The same issues are faced by schools in Uganda that the
numbers of students are increasing, which leads to the administration of
examinations and assessment for each semester become increasingly
laborious, time consuming and costly.
Main Objective
• The objective of this study is to develop a web-based question bank
management system to improve on exam management.
Specific Objectives
1. To gather requirements and analyze them to obtain the requirement
specifications for Web Based Question Bank Management Information
System.
2. To develop a Web Based Question Bank Management Information System.
3. To test and validate the system design
Scope of the study
• This project was undertaken to develop an automated system improve on exam
management in universities, colleges and institutions. The project was carried
out from Ugandan Universities and to be completed in six months time before
the end of June 2021. The system is used by both students, Teachers and
universities/Tertiary institutions via computers online. It is a web-based tool for
the purpose of students, whereby, they are able to take online exams, tests and
quiz.
• The system allows students to register and take the exam. It also enables
lecturers/Teachers to perform many tasks. The system has several functions.
Scope of the study Cont’d
• The users can do the registration before using the system. The lecturers can
upload downloadable materials, revision questions; he can view the list of all
students who take the exam. The teacher can send notifications to students.
• Once logging, the students can choose the subject and take the exam, download
revision documents, previous exams. After finishing using the software the
users have a logout function that allows them to sign out. This is because the
system wants to ensure no external users can exploit the system. The question
are shuffled in a random order so that possibilities for getting questions in the
same order for the students who are beside, is very less.
Significance
• To the schools, the system helps the schools to create a Questions-Bank
database
• To Students can evaluate their understanding levels and teachers can track the
activities of their students.
• To other researchers, this system helps to add to the existing literature in the
field of research.
• To the government the system acts as a source of revenue through taxation
• To the researcher, the system helps to widen the researcher’s knowledge and
complete his or her degree.
Methodology
Requirements Collection
Interviews
Interviews provide an in-depth understanding of views and experiences of the
respondents. Since the researcher needed to know specific information to
compare and contrast with information gained from other interviews, semi-
structured interviews were chosen. Therefore, the same questions were asked in
most of the interviews.
Documentation
Documentation was used in collecting system requirements. Supplementary hand
written notes were taken for whatever interview was conducted.
Research Methodology
• The methodology chosen to develop this system is waterfall model approach. I
opted for this method because I found that it is the best for my project where
the stages involved can assist my level of progress. Many developers prefer
waterfall model and widely use it as a development strategy
• Waterfall model approach is chosen because the approach allows the
development of the system to be revised after the stages is finished. Once the
stages are not satisfied, then going back to the previous stages can be
considered necessary to add or modify any features. The different stages for
this model:
Research Methodology Cont’d
• Project Planning
• Requirements Design
• Design
• Development
• Integration and Testing
• Installation and Acceptance
System Design
• This includes a database driven website with a search tool/ engine for faster
information retrieval.
• system design that includes the context diagram, Level One DFD, system
architecture and database design.
Context Diagram (Level Zero DFD)
Level 1 Data Flow Diagram
ERD Diagrams
Discussions
• The project was 80% successfully implemented depending on work plan
and it was able to meet most of the user objectives shown in the earlier
chapters.
• The task of creating a design document for the system taught us much in
how Data Flow Diagrams is such a powerful technique in system design.
• The project in general definitely did a lot to expand my skills in UML and
modelling and hopefully we will be able to use these skills in the future.
• I also hope to translate this project or system in the future into a mobile
application through mobile programming, which is the way to go in the I.T
world
Limitations
• Difficulty in fully eliciting system requirements from different stakeholders of
Gama events management.
• Meeting with our supervisors was also challenging as at times I would have
different tasks to perform beyond campus.
• Being the last semester at campus also proved a challenge as I had other many
course units to do so as to end as per the academic bulletin.
Recommendations
• In the current research, this software has been made to
accommodate the generation of question paper, Store question
papers in some subjects and some examination i.e., VB. Net, Php. In
the near future, we will apply such operations for all subjects and in
all other examination.
• This version does not contain HTTPS due to the cost associated with
an SSL certificate. But such implementation can be easily incorporated
into the software in our extended version.
Conclusion
• This study described the analysis, design and implementation of the Questions-
Bank system that allows improvement on exam management, store course
reviews and previous exams.
• The system allows the schools to create a Questions-Bank database that stores
the exams questions, the previous exams, the model answers, the reviews and
useful exercises for each course.
