• Shaking can be so strong
that you will not be able to move far without falling down
• Do not try to leave the
building as these may collapse resulting in getting trapped
• Windows, facades and
architectural details are often the first parts of the building to collapse. After Earthquake
• Evacuation: Evacuate the
building at the earliest following the evacuation plan if it has been displayed • Expect aftershocks: Expect secondary shockwaves which can occur in the first hours, days, weeks, or even months after the quake. These can be less violent than the main quake but strong enough to do additional damage to weakened structures After Earthquake
• Assemble: Gather at already
identified safe places (open ground)
• Stay away from damaged
areas. Stay away unless you are requested by the police, fire, or relief organizations. Return home only when authorities allow After Earthquake
If Trapped Under Debris
1. Do not light a match. There may be
gas leakages.
2. Do not move about or kick up dust.
Chances are you might cause more physical damage to yourself.
3. Cover your mouth with a
handkerchief or clothing. After Earthquake WHEN TRAPPED UNDER DEBRIS
• Once you feel that the
earthquake has stopped, tap on pipe or walls to make rescuers notice you.
• Use a whistle if you have one
but do not whistle on your own, as you might choke on the smoke and dust.
• Shout only as a last resort.
Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust. Actions By Control Room Operators (Plant & WHRPP) Steps Activity Beware of the emergency shutdown procedure of the respective equipment. Beware of the sturdy furniture, heavy desk or table to take shelter. Should know that the glass windows can shutter and can get injured in result. Preparedness Beware of the nearest emergency exit. The assembly point must be known.
Don’t get panic.
Stay inside. If the quake is growing and there’s a potential threat of building collapse and/or you find rigorous process parameters’ variations at your panel then take following actions; a) Apply the Emergency shutdown procedure. Action during effective period (Earthquake) b) Take shelter under the sturdy furniture/table/doorway. c) Avoid sitting near to windows.
If you are trapped inside/under debris;
Don’t move about or kick out debris. Try to cover your mouth with handkerchief/clothing. Call for help using mobile/walkie-talkie/telephone if accessible, otherwise shout for help. Actions after Earthquake If you managed to escape the building, then don’t return to the building unless it’s declared clear by the safety warden Stay Safe!
