NAVISWORKS versions
• Navisworks Freedom

Autodesk Navisworks Freedom software

is the free viewer for NWD and
DWF™ file formats.

• Navisworks Simulate
• Navisworks Manage
Multidisciplinary models created in a
broad range of applications can be
combined into a single integrated project
model and published into the NWD
format using Autodesk Navisworks
Simulate or Autodesk Navisworks
Manage software

Autodesk Navisworks Manage is used for

clash control
NAVISWORKS File Reader
• DWG – To import the dwg (magicad model) directly to
Navis it has to be saved in 3D

• IFC

• Skechup

• Revit Model
NAVISWORKS
MODEL CREATOR STEPS

• The model can be created only with Navisworks

Simulate or Manage
• If you will not use CLASH Detective please
Open Navisworks Simulate

STEP 1 - Append all models you need for your

moddel
o Go to Home tab and click Append
o With Selection tree button activated you can see
what is appended in the Navis model
STEP 2 Adjustments
If you ”Right” click on a moddel inserted in Navis
(in the selection tree) you have some options for
editing the inserted Model. Mostly used of these
command are:
o Hide (to unHide you have to click on it again)
o Units and Transform if one of your inserted
model has other setting than the others
o Override Item > Override Transform (here you
can change the position of the inserted model)
NAVISWORKS
MODEL SECTIONING

o In order to make a section / ”to slice the building” you need to go to ”Viewpoint” tab, and press the ”enable sectioning” button, only then a new tab will
appear, the ”Sectioning tools” tab

• Here you can find already made cuttings planes that you can use, you can align your cutting plane to any surface you can select, or even make a section
box

• To move the section on any direction you anly have to

hold on to the arrow of the direction you want to adjust and
while holding it go up or down / right or left
NAVISWORKS
MODEL CLASH DETECTIVE

o In order to make collision control between the models you inserted in NAVIS you need to go to ”Home” tab, and press the ”Clash Detective” button, only
then a new tab will appear, near the selection tree (and over your screen)
o REMEMBER this option is available only in Naviswork Manage (and we shall not open the Naviswork Manage if we are not making a collision control)

• In the ”Clash detective” window we can now make Clash tests in order to see where we have collisions
• Press ”Add test button”, and a new test will appear ”Test 1”, you can rename it by double clik on the name.
• In the ”Rules” tab you can make a selecton of what the test can ignore. For example if an duct is colliding with a pipe and the pipe is going in and then out
of the duct Navis will see 2 collisions instead of one, if you check the boxes below it will only see it as one collision. Is is preferable to use is so one
dosen’t get worried because the detective has found 1000 collisions .
NAVISWORKS
MODEL CLASH DETECTIVE

• In the “Select” tab you have to chose witch are the models you want to compare.

• Here you can also chose the ”Tolerance” (you can put a bigger value for example if you have a crouded place and SW has accepted thet the collision with
insulated pipes / ducts can be ignored if they are under 10 mm , there insulation can be pressed)
• Press ”Run Test”
NAVISWORKS
MODEL CLASH DETECTIVE

• In the “Resulst” tab you can see the collision for the models you selected, and the “Display settings”
After you solved the collisions in your original model
(Magicad/Revit), you can make new IFC, with the
same name as before, or save the new version
of the dwg in 3D, refresh the models (from the
“Home tab”), and Re-run the test,

• If you check this box you can see all the clashes
between the modeles you selected to check, if not,
you only see the clash you selected.

”Dim other” makes all the other objects grey and

transparent
RECOMENDED, in order so one can be able to find where
in the building is the collision situated

”Hide other” hides all the other objects, you will only
see the collision

• After ”Re-run Test” the status on the clashes will change

If you zomm in and out and ”lost” your collisionthis
button will take you to it.
NAVISWORKS
MODEL CLASH DETECTIVE

• In the “Report” tab you can export the collision for the models you selected, usually as an HTML file (it can be open with internet explorer) or an excel
file XML , but this one sometimes dose’t export the pictures with the collision

NAVISWORKS
GOOD TO KNOW

• You can measure distances in Navis by using the “Review tab”, also you can draw on the model (instead of print screen
and edit the print screen

• You can Clik on an element and ”Hide” it in order to see what is behind it, command made from the ”Home” tab or by
right click on the object

• After making a model you should save it in the 4_CAD folder of the project, creating a new Subfolder ”Navis”
• Multiple users can open the navis file (the saved one), but only the person that has opened it first can save the changes
HE made , the others that opened it in the same day (the firs user has it still opened) are only ”readers” of the file, they
can make changes, but they can’t save (You don’t know if somebody else has it opened, the program dosen’t show that
type of window)
