5. Why do we not use a congruency test
involving 3 angles?

Because triangles with the same angles can


be of any size. They are similar triangles.
Lesson Purpose

The purpose of this lesson is to write proofs


showing triangles are congruent and hence
using congruence to prove other geometrical
facts.
Lesson Language Practice
Congruent triangles - have the same
corresponding angle measures and side lengths.
Corresponding angles - that occur on the
same side of the transversal line and are equal
in size.
Corresponding sides - the sides that are in the
same position in any different 2-dimensional
shapes.
Lesson Activity

Two triangles ABC and PQR are such that, AB =


3.5 cm, BC = 7.1 cm, AC = 5 cm, PQ = 7.1 cm,
QR = 5 cm and PR = 3.5 cm.
Two triangles ABC and PQR are such that, AB =
3.5 cm, BC = 7.1 cm, AC = 5 cm, PQ = 7.1 cm,
QR = 5 cm and PR = 3.5 cm.

Read out the following questions and ask


students to answer in the space on their
worksheet.
1. Draw a sketch of the triangles.
2. Show that the two triangles are congruent.
Two triangles ABC and PQR are such that, AB =
3.5 cm, BC = 7.1 cm, AC = 5 cm, PQ = 7.1 cm,
QR = 5 cm and PR = 3.5 cm.
AB=PR, BC=PQ, AC=QR
The three sides are equal, so the triangles
are congruent. SSS Test.
