Kicking Wire Exp

The document describes an experiment to verify Fleming's left hand rule by studying the force on a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field. A copper wire suspended in a solution is used as a conductor. When a current is passed and a magnet is placed nearby, the wire moves according to the left hand rule.

EXPERIMENT
AIM : to study the force on a current- carrying straight conductor in a magnetic
field and to verify that the motion of a conductor is according to Fleming’s left
hand rule

Material Required

 A flexible copper wire

 Salt solution
 horse shoe magnet
 12V battery eliminator
 stand
 Plate
 clips
THEORY

This experiment demonstrates that when a conductor carrying

electric current is brought near a magnetic field it , a force is exerted
on the current making it move.
the conductor generates its own magnetic field which interferes with
the external magnetic field, attraction and repulsion occurs resulting
in the movement of the conductor
In the experiment the current , the magnetic field, direction of the
force should be at right angle to each other
Procedure
Take a flexible copper wire AB and suspend it from a rigid support with
the help of a flexible joint.
Place a U shaped magnet around the lower end B of the wire. In the
center of the U shaped magnet place a vessel filled with in salt solution.
Such a manner that the lower end B of copper wire touches the surface of
salt solution.
Now, connect the upper end A of wire with the positive terminal of
battery and dip another wire from the negative terminal of the battery in
the vessel filled with mercury. In this way the circuit gets completed.
Now, insert the key. When the key is inserted, the current flows through
the wire from end A to B perpendicular to the magnetic field and the wire
is kicked outward.
Magnetic effect of electric current

• The magnetic effect of electric current is the phenomenon where a wire

acts like a magnet when an electric current passes through it.
• The wire creates a magnetic field around it, which can be represented
by magnetic field lines.
• These lines are formed in the shape of concentric circles around the
wire
• The magnetic field becomes less as you move away from the wire
Fleming’s left hand rule
• Fleming’s Left Hand Rule states that if we
arrange our thumb, forefinger and middle finger
of the left hand perpendicular to each other
• then the thumb points towards the direction of the
magnetic force, the forefinger points towards the
direction of the magnetic field and the middle
finger points towards the direction of the current.
Observation
 When the circuit is completed, (wire touches the salt water) ,
electric current flows through it. The magnetic field of the wire
interacts with the magnet and gets pushed outwards.

 When it is pushed outwards the circuit disconnects and the magnetic

field is lost, so the wire is pushed inward.. And the circuit is
reconnected

 When the circuit connects initially ,the wire gets kicked more(when it is
just connected

 If the direction of current is reversed, the wire gets kicked inwards

Dance forms
 The origin of Manipuri dance can be traced back to ancient times that go beyond
recorded history. The dance, which originated in the state of Manipur, is
associated with many rituals and traditional festivals. There are legendary
references to the dances of Shiva and Parvati and other gods and goddesses
who created the universe.Popularly known as a divine dance, Raas Leela is an
important part of traditional Manipuri culture and its uniqueness can be visibly
seen in every aspect of the dance form, be it the costume or the moves. As per
reports, Raas Leela was first treated as a dance form in 1779 by Ningthou Ching
Thang Khambatta, also known as Rajarshi Bhagya Chandra, an 18th-century
Meitei monarch.
Famous food
 Some popular Manipuri dishes include Chamthong (vegetable
stew), Chak-hao kheer (black rice pudding), Ngari (fermented
fish) and Iromba (mixture of boiled vegetables, fish, and
mashed chilies). The food is generally mild in flavor and not
very spicy, with a generous use of ginger, garlic, and chili
peppers.

Conclusion
 Electricfield is produced when current is passed through
a conductor.
 The needle of the compass gets deflected when brought
near a current carrying conductor. This shows that
magnetic field is produced ,therefore current carrying
wire acts as a magnet.
Precautions
 The voltage should not be 220 volts
 The wire should just touch salt solution for the
experiment to work
 Make sure that your hands are dry when handling the
circuit
 Be sure to keep the battery dry
Applications of magnetic effect of
current carrying wire
 This concept is used in relay switches and motor controls
 Electric school bells work on this concept
 Electric fans work on this principle
 Using of electromagnets in junkyards to clean scrap
 This concept is also used in automotive appliances like
industrial ones where control of high voltages and current is
intended, controlling high power loads,
