Introduction
We were assigned by a project of our BSt
subject to visit a wholesale market of FRUITS,
FLOWERS and VEGETABLES. It was
basically a field project in which we went to
Jamalpur vegetable, flower and fruit market.
We feel proud for working on this project as
this is not only the project for internal marks,
but we can also acquire knowledge of our own
city of which we were unaware till now.

Sources of
merchandise
• The wholesaler directly purchases a bulk amount
from the farmer or the farm keeper itself.
• This gives them an immediate increase in their
profit margin.
• The wholesaler (here) purchases from the fixed
mart where the supplier supply the flowers.
• As there are also some seasonal flowers, they
supply it accordingly.
• Flowers which are not available on the particular
state/city/country, are imported from other places
if the requirement is in bulk amount.

NATURE OF GOODS DEALT
• Nature of goods dealt in wholesale market is
large in quantity and traded throughout the
year.
• Goods are traded in retail market are seasonal
and less in quantity whereas goods in
wholesale market are large in quantity and
available around the year.
• As there are varieties in vegetables, some
wholesalers keep a particular product for
selling as a wholesale product.
• There are also some wholesaler who sell
multiple products.

MODES OF PAYMENT
• Mode of payments here can be in both
i.e., in cash or online payment.
• Mode of online payment through UPI
pin or googlepay is not seen with
illiterate people.
• Everyday transactions are made with the
supplier rather than the exceptional case.
• Some wholesaler develop friendly
relations with the supplier which
benefits them with credit transactions if
needed.

Disposal of dead stock
• Dead stock is the inventory that merchants fail to
sell – stock which also has little likelihood of selling
in future.
• Selling the dead stock with a related item at a lower
price than customers would pay individually for such
things.
• Some wholesaler keep their goods there itself.
• Few wholesalers sell theis vegetables left at the end
of the day to retailer on daily basis.
• Some vegetables which get rotten due to whether
conditions or certain reasons, are disposed directly
in dustbin itself

Warehousing facilities
• Wholesalers arrive there everyday
3a.m.
• Some wholesalers are trained because
they regularly work there since 10-20
years.
• They arrive early in the morning and
bring their goods from the market
located beside it.
• No rent is been paid by them as the sell
vegetables on the streets itself.
• This gives them benefit of more profit
as their rent expense wouldn’t be
there.

Summary
We are honoured by doing this field
project as it gave us experience in
many aspects of life. It taught us
how to tackle yourself with the
local public when buying items
locally. We also learnt about our
own city. We enjoyed it and even
got knowledge through it. It was
great fun executing it.
