Instant Messaging and Chatting

 Instant Messaging and Chatting – instant messaging (IM) can


also be done on the internet. It is real-time communicaion system
through which typed messages are exchanged between two or
more people, but usually one-on-one, via internet-connected
computers or other devices such as mobile phones. IM requires
software that users need to download and run on their devices to
communicate with each other.

Another way to communicate online in real-


time is via chatting. Chatting, also known as
synchronous conferencing or online chat,
allows the exchange typed messages with
one person or several people at once in
virtual rooms called chat rooms. Chat rooms
can be accessed through some web sites or
by using an IM software. Chat rooms are
usually monitored by moderators to prevent
verbal abuse and flame wars between
chatters, people who communicate with
each other in the chat room. A flame war
takes place when two people exchange
harsh words in chat rooms or on bulletin
boards.
