SHORT CONVERSATION GAME Situation 1: You are not feeling well and are trying to seek for a help from your mother. Situation 2: You have a friend that won first place in the News Writing Contest during the Schools Press Conference. Situation 3: You are absent yesterday. Suddenly, you saw your English Teacher buying groceries at the market. Learning task 1 COMMUNICATIVE STYLES The way you communicate has a big impact on how you get on with people and get the things you want. Good communication skills can help you avoid conflict and solve problems- they’re also important for making friends and having healthy relationships. Types of communicative styles Formal Informal/casual Intimate Consultative Frozen Formal style straightforward speeches; planned Uses one-way communication Used in speaking to large groups Avoids using slang terminologies Formal style o President’s delivery of the SONA o Giving of announcements during a program o Opening Remarks, welcome addresses, closing message casual style uses informal language Common conversation, depends on the level of closeness Uses group language so only members of the group can understand casual style o Phone calls o Talking to friends and family members o Chats/ videocalls JACK AND MINA TEXTED EACH OTHER THIS MORNING

Delivering a speech at a UN Summit 4. Singing the National Anthem 5. Talking and laughing about memorable experiences 6. Chit-chatting with your best friends 7. Sharing your problems with your family 8. Consulting your health problems 9. Reciting the mission and vision of the school 10.Talking to the CEO ACTIVITY 1 ______________6. Couple talking about their future plans, family sharing ideas, very close friends sharing secrets ______________7. Announcements, SONA, welcome addresses ______________8.
