RESEARCH GRANT OR FUNDING
It is term generally covering any funding for
scientific research in the areas of both hard science
and technology and social science.
Total research funding in most developed countries is
between 1.5% -3% of GDP
USA-2.62% Of GDP
CHINA-1.43% of GDP
JAPAN-3.33% of GDP
OBJECTIVE
Academic advancement
Support for new invention
Up gradation for teaching and sharing knowledge
Development and exchange of new knowledge and
expertise and thus enhancing nations’s competitive
position globally and quality of life of human
condition can be improved
IMPORTANCE
The enactment of orphan drug legislation in some
countries has increased funding available to
develop drugs meant to treat rare condition,
resulting in breakthroughs that previously were
uneconomical to pursue
Investment in science and engineering research
generates a wide range of benefits from economic
growth to enhancing quality of life
