HYPERBOLA
What is Hyperbola?

-is a set of all points in a plane such that the

difference of the distances of each point of
the set from the two fixed points is
constant.
Parts of
Hyperbola
Center
The mid-point of the line-segment
joining the vertices of
an hyperbola is called its center.

a = distance from center to vertex.

b = distance from center to one

endpoints of the conjugate axis.

c = distance from center to focus.

Note!!!
C
Transverse Axis

The axis of a hyperbola that

passes through the two foci.

2a = length of the transverse axis.

Conjugate Axis

The line segment which is

perpendicular bisector of the
transverse axis with the length of
2b.
Vertices

The points of the hyperbola with

the transverse axis and major axis.

Note!!!
V1 V2
Foci

Two fixed points located inside

each curve of a hyperbola.

2c = focal length.

Note!!!
F1 F2
Co-vertices

End point of conjugate axis. The

minor axis is perpendicular to the
major axis at the center, the
endpoints of the minor axis are
called co-vertices.

Note!!!
B1 B2
Latera Recta

Latus rectum (singular) are the

line segments passing through the
foci and perpendicular to the
major axis.

Note!!!
E1 E2 E3 E4
Asymptotes

These are lines that approached to

center but not crossed or touched
any part of the hyperbola.
